Definition of

Requirement

Protest

A demand is a demand that does not accept a negative response.

The first step we are going to take to know the meaning of the term requirement is to discover its etymological origin. In this case, it must be emphasized that it derives from Latin, exactly from exigentia , which is the result of the sum of the following components:

-The prefix ex- , which means “outwards”.

-The verb agere , which can be translated as “carry forward” or “move.”

-The -nt- component, which is used to indicate “agent”.

-The suffix -ia , which is synonymous with “quality”.

It is about the act and consequence of demanding : to demand, to ask for something in an imperious way. For example: “The employer refused to accept the union leader's demand to reinstate the dismissed workers,” “The requirement to speak in Spanish inside the bar is discriminatory,” “The demand for the government to increase social assistance for workers intensifies.” assist the poorest sectors.”

Among the synonyms of demand are mandate, requirement, imposition, intimation, coercion and coercion . On the contrary, among its antonyms we find words such as compromise, conformism, elasticity and understanding , for example.

What is a requirement

When a person demands, they make a claim and urge that their request be fulfilled. This means that a demand, at least in a symbolic or theoretical sense, does not contemplate a negative response . On the other hand, if an individual places a request, they accept the possibility that their request will not be met.

A group of workers can make a demand to their employer: either improve working conditions or they will start an indefinite strike. If the boss does not comply with the request, therefore, the employees will not continue to fulfill their duties. The case is different if the workers suggest to the employer that they improve the aforementioned conditions, without any other warning .

The idea of demand is also used to refer to a claim or demand for effort : “The club decided not to hire the German player since it is not willing to satisfy his demands,” “The demands in this company are very great,” “ “I am a seasoned actress and that is why I have some demands when it comes to working.”

Manifestation

A claim can be taken as a demand.

The term in books

In the same way, we cannot ignore that there are various books that use the term in question in their titles. This would be the case, for example, of the work “Demand and Tenderness. Pedagogical letters to accompany a growing life” , written by José Ramón Urbieta .

Likewise, “The demand for justice” also stands out, which is a work carried out by Gustavo Zagrebelsky and Carlo Maria Martini . In it they come to address justice from different points of view and how it has evolved over time to become a key piece of society, not only from a secular point of view but also from a social point of view, in some cases from a more simple and in others from a deeper and more complex vision.
