Constructions

Buildings are constructions that have two or more floors.

From the Latin aedificĭum , a building is a fixed construction that is used as human housing or that allows the performance of different activities. The etymological origin of the term is related to "making fire" , since the first human constructions were intended to protect fire (to prevent it from being put out by wind or rain).

The materials and techniques used for the construction of buildings changed with the advancement of history . Architecture is known as the science dedicated to the art of building construction.

The building as a vertical construction with more than one floor

The notion of building, in its strict sense, allows us to name any construction made by man . A theater or a church, for example, are buildings. However, everyday language uses the term to refer to vertical constructions that have more than one floor or floor.

The buildings, therefore, are linked to skyscrapers or towers , which usually function as permanent housing for people or whose facilities are used for the installation of offices. For example: "My aunt lives in a building that has 22 floors" , "With so many buildings on the coast, the beach has less and less sun."

Burj Khalifa

The Burj Khalifa in Dubai is the tallest building in the world.

Tallest skyscrapers

Precisely when talking about skyscrapers we have to emphasize that the five tallest in the world are the following:

Burj Khalifa . It is located in Dubai (United Arab Emirates), has a height of 828 meters and to date is the tallest construction created by man.

Abraj Al Bait Towers . The city of Mecca (Saudi Arabia) is where this construction complex is located, reaching 601 meters in height.

One World Trade Center . To replace the tragically well-known Twin Towers, which were destroyed by a terrorist attack that crashed planes into them in 2011, this skyscraper was erected in Lower Manhattan, New York. Freedom Tower is also known as the tower that reaches 541 meters high.

Taipei 101 . 509 meters is the size of this 106-story skyscraper located in the city of Taipei (Taiwan) and which has the privilege of being the most ecological of all that exist.

Shanghai World Financial Center . This is one of the tallest buildings in the world with its 492 meters high, which also makes it the tallest in Shanghai and also in its entire country, China.

Different types of buildings

Depending on the ownership of the building, we can talk about public buildings (they belong to the State ) or private buildings (their owner is a natural or legal person). Regarding use, there are government buildings (which house government delegations), industrial buildings (where productive activities take place), commercial buildings (composed of one or more stores), military buildings (such as barracks) and residential buildings (used as housing), among others.

In addition to all this, we cannot overlook the fact that in recent years there has been a lot of talk about what are known as sustainable buildings , which are those that are built not only using ecological materials but also committed to introducing the use of renewable energies.
