Definition of

Demotivation

The etymological origin of the word demotivation that concerns us now is in Latin. Thus, we can establish that it is the result of the sum of three components of said language:

-The prefix «des-«, which indicates the reversal of the action.

-The noun "motivus", which can be translated as "movement".

-The suffix «-cion», which is synonymous with «action and effect».

The idea of demotivation refers to the absence of motivation : the external or internal stimuli that lead an individual to develop an action. An unmotivated person, therefore, does not find stimuli to act.

DemotivationFor example: "The violence in the region constitutes a demotivation for travelers, who prefer to choose other destinations" , "The lack of recognition leads to the demotivation of employees" , "We have to fight against the demotivation of the police forces" .

It is easy to understand what the notion of motivation refers to if we analyze it in opposition to the concept of motivation. Motivation is something that mobilizes the individual: it generates the desire or intention to carry out an activity to achieve a goal or fulfill an objective . When there is no thing that makes that desire arise, demotivation appears and the person finds no reason to act or make an effort.

It is important to know that there are several types of demotivation, among which we can highlight the following:

-Work demotivation, which, as its name indicates, is what occurs at work and leads to the employee being stagnant, without finding incentives in their position...

-School demotivation, which is what some students suffer who have no desire or interest of any kind in their academic training.

-Social demotivation, which occurs when a person has no interest in relating to others or certain social circles.

Demotivation is a common problem in the workplace . When a worker feels that whatever he does, he will get the same result or the same response, he loses interest in putting in the effort. A salesperson who always earns the same salary since he does not receive sales commissions or prizes probably does not mind selling more or less. Demotivation, therefore, is everyday. On the other hand, those who know that, as their sales increase, their income also increases, they will work hard at work with the motivation of earning more money.

In the context of education , demotivation is present when students feel that the content they are taught is neither useful nor interesting . The case is different for students who believe that, by learning something, they will improve their skills and they will be able to use that to their advantage.

Specifically, although there are many causes that can cause a person to suffer from demotivation, in any aspect of their life, we find that among the most important are those who are too perfectionistic, those who do not have the feeling of progressing in no sense, which completely lacks challenges or goals...

Likewise, there are other causes such as social pressure, feeling afraid of certain events or circumstances, finding yourself bored in your life in general or in specific areas...
