Challenge

Proof

Nature often presents itself as a challenge to human beings.

Challenge is the action and effect of challenging , a verb that refers to competing , challenging or provoking someone . A challenge can therefore be a competition where a rivalry is made manifest. For example: «Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal will face each other in a challenge that will determine who is the best tennis player today» , «The challenge between the Argentine boxer and his Uruguayan rival will take place next month in Las Vegas» .

When a person challenges another and invites them to a fight , duel or competition , it is also called a challenge: "I accepted my cousin's challenge: tomorrow we are going to play a PlayStation tournament at his house" , "The challenge is to go around the square three times in less than five minutes" , "No challenge can be so important as to put a man's life at risk" .

Different types of challenge

Challenging another person may consist of contradicting their actions or will , generating a confrontation: "Don't you dare challenge me" , "Juan challenged his father by telling him that he could live without his money" , "I am your mother and I am not going to accept any challenge from you" .

Complicated and difficult-to-resolve situations are considered challenges: “Living alone in an unknown country was a huge challenge, but I was able to make progress,” “This position is the most important challenge of my professional career.”

Characteristics of a defiant attitude

When an individual approaches another, convinced of his superiority in something, and proposes a challenge, we are facing a challenge. If the other person accepts it, they must test each other at the point they have agreed upon, and it will be proven who of the two has the greatest capacity to win.

In this type of action, the attitude of the person proposing the challenge is fundamental . Many times, a person who answers with a certain arrogance is understood as " defiant ", when in reality his way of acting may be more related to a certain insecurity than to an overvaluation of himself. In the same way, when a child answers back to an adult, he is not necessarily challenging him; perhaps he is really convinced of what he believes and simply wants to be heard.

Arm wrestling

A challenge between two people usually involves a competition or a confrontation.

The positive side of a challenge

Challenge is a positive thing ; it is good for people to test themselves and face others in order to grow and progress in what they know how to do. However, sometimes it is seen as a negative thing because people do not understand the true meaning of it.

It is therefore important to educate in security . If a child feels humiliated or inferior to another, he or she is likely to show a negative attitude and display a counterproductive attitude of defiance . On the other hand, if he or she feels calm and happy to be who he or she is, he or she will display an attitude of defiance towards another with the aim of surpassing himself or herself in something and not as a defensive or fearful attitude.

TV shows and records

"Desafío" is, on the other hand, a reality show produced by Caracol Televisión that has been broadcast in Colombia since 2004 and an album by the Spanish band Barón Rojo that was released in 1992 .

On Spanish television's Channel Four there is a programme called Desafío extremo (Extreme Challenge) hosted by Jesús Calleja. It features dangerous expeditions to the most remote places in the world and shows us ways of life that we would not otherwise be able to learn about.

Calleja is a Spanish mountaineer and adventurer who has overcome various challenges, including the ascent of Mount Everest and the Seven Summits. He is also a helicopter and light aircraft pilot. Desafío extremo is broadcast on the Cuatro and Energy channels.
