Cattle are mammalian and ruminant animals that constitute a subfamily of the bovid group. They have an extensive tail that ends in a tuft and a wide snout, while the case of their horns is smooth.
Human beings , since prehistory, have domesticated cattle for different purposes. On the one hand, cattle are used as food since their meat is consumed. On the other hand, the milk extracted from these animals is also ingested by people. Furthermore, different clothing items are produced with its skin and leather.
On the other hand, cattle are used as draft animals : due to their strength, they can pull plows or carts. All these characteristics make them species with a very widespread presence in rural areas.
Examples of bovines
The Bos primigenius taurus is one of the best-known bovines: it is the cow (or bull , if the specimen is male). Its domestication took place about 10,000 years ago in Asia. Today the cow provides meat and milk and constitutes one of the main sources of protein for man. Bulls, for their part, are also protagonists of bullfighting shows, important for certain cultures and questioned by others due to the cruelty exercised towards the animal.
Oxen , bison , buffalo and certain species of antelope are also part of the bovine group .
Among the animals that belong to the bovine family but not to the bovine subfamily we can name sheep , goats , impalas and wildebeests .
The vegan position
There are numerous scientific studies that, together with the testimonies of thousands of people who were vegan by birth, show us that human beings do not depend on any product of animal origin for their correct development. Despite the centuries that our species has spent unfairly exploiting these living beings, turning them into veritable slaves in broad daylight, it does not need their milk or meat to enjoy good health.
One of the most contradictory issues that animal activists point out is that spectacles of pure cruelty such as bullfighting are placed on a different level than livestock farming, when they are two undeniable examples of injustice.
Bovino district
As its proper name, Bovino is an Italian district that has 3,264 inhabitants. It is located in the province of Foggia, belonging to the Apulia region, in the south of the country. Bovino is part of the group "the most beautiful small towns in Italy", whose promotion was carried out by the National Association of Italian Districts . In December 2013 it was also included in Orange Flags , promoted by the Touring Club .
In the territory of Bovino, which is mainly made up of hills, we can find around three thousand hectares of forest and many springs. Regarding the name, in this case it derives from the Latin Vibinum , a Samnite center that was already under the rule of Rome when the general and statesman of Cartagena Aníbal Barca settled there in 217 BC. C., before The Battle of Cannae .
The Cathedral of Bovino was built in the 10th century and boasted a Byzantine style, although in the second half of the 11th century it was considerably retouched to acquire an appearance more consistent with Roman architecture. In the 14th century it was rebuilt, and in 1935 it underwent important restoration work. Inside we can see the tomb of Bishop Giustiniani, which dates back to 1608, a baroque choir from the early 1700s and a valuable painting attributed to M. Preti entitled " Saint Sebastian ".
