A classroom is a room where classes are held.

A classroom is a physical space where classes are taught . Educational centers, therefore, have numerous rooms of this type so that teachers can teach lessons to students.

For example: «Quickly, children, enter the classroom! The teacher is ready to start the class» , «In which classroom do the English classes take place? "I want to talk to the teacher," "It's very cold in this classroom, they should install a heater."

To establish the meaning of the term precisely, it is important to know its etymological origin. In this case, we can state that it derives from a Latin word that was used to refer to closed patios where different ceremonies were organized . In the same way, it was also used to mention the patios of the different royal palaces.

Classroom characteristics

The characteristics of the classrooms vary according to the type of educational establishment and the number of students they house. At a general level it can be said that all classrooms must have the appropriate conditions to promote the learning process.

Having chairs and benches for all students, having good lighting and air conditioning and having resources such as blackboards and cabinets is very important in classrooms. Chairs and benches should also be distributed in the classroom appropriately so that all students can see the teacher easily.

In modern classrooms, technology is an important component. Many classrooms have computers and WiFi connectivity available to students.

Virtual platform

The platform that allows distance learning over the Internet is called a virtual classroom . In general, these digital spaces allow students to be in contact with teachers.

It is interesting to know that, in recent years, virtual classrooms have increased considerably, which have the following identifying features:

  • They have a clear and intuitive structure where there are tabs for communication, information, resources and content.
  • They usually include a chat room where students of the course in question can share impressions, information of interest, doubts...
  • They are closed to the general public. That is, only the teacher and students can access them.
  • News, events, teacher email, bibliography and practical activities are other essential sections in a virtual classroom.
  • They bring with them a long list of advantages, such as the possibility that anyone can improve their training from home and at any time of the day. The course, therefore, can be developed without having to physically travel to the study center. This represents economic and time savings. In addition, it is a great alternative to balance work, work and student life.

Aula magna , finally, is the special room that, in a university, is intended for carrying out formal events.

At the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Buenos Aires ( UBA ), for example, the “José Arce” Aula Magna is located on the main floor of the building. The construction of this room took place in 1949 .
