Definition of

Artificial

Cybernetics

Artificial intelligence imitates the functioning of the human brain.

Artificial is that which is manufactured by man : that is, that does not come from nature. The adjective also qualifies what is false , illusory or simulated .

For example: "The new private neighborhood has an artificial lagoon suitable for practicing water sports" , "The match will be played on an artificial grass field" , "I didn't like the cake, it had too many artificial ingredients" .

Etymology of artificial

Before moving forward with the meaning of the term artificial, it is important to discover its etymological origin. In this case, we have to emphasize that it is a word that derives from the Latin artificialis , which is the result of the sum of three clearly defined components:

  • The noun ars, artis , which can be translated as "art" .
  • The verb facere , which is synonymous with "do" .
  • The suffix -alis , indicating relationship or belonging.

Replacement of natural

Many times the artificial works as a replacement for the natural based on a similarity or an imitation . An artificial lagoon , returning to the first of the previous examples, is created by humans , who dig and fill it with water. On the other hand, a natural lagoon arises spontaneously.

Artificial grass , on the other hand, is a product made from plastic or another material. The artificial ingredients of a cake, for their part, imitate in flavor, color, aroma and texture others that come from nature.

Satellite

An artificial satellite is a device that orbits a planet or other star.

artificial intelligence

Artificial intelligence is known as the system that, created from the contributions of different sciences and disciplines, allows problem resolution to be achieved through the paradigm of human intelligence. Artificial intelligence assumes that a machine can "reason" logically and "interpret" the context in which it acts, providing a specific and appropriate response.

Precisely about this concept we have to highlight the existence of a film titled "AI Artificial Intelligence" . It was released in 2001 and is directed by Steven Spielberg . It is framed within the science fiction genre and tells how in the future human beings coexist with robots that are called meccas . These, logically, have a great difference with men: they do not have feelings.

However, conflict will occur when one of those robots is programmed to love. At that moment, absolutely unexpected situations will take place.

We cannot forget that artificial intelligence has sparked the interest of many other film directors. For this reason, there are numerous films that have revolved around it, in addition to the one already mentioned. Examples are the following:

  • «Her» ( 2013 ), dirigida por Spike Jonze .
  • The "Matrix" saga, by the Wachowski sisters.
  • "The bicentennial man" ( 1999 ), de Chris Columbus y protagonizada por Robin Williams .

A type of satellite

An artificial satellite , finally, is a device that has the ability to orbit around a planet, a star, an asteroid or another star for some purpose.

By maintaining an orbit they resemble natural satellites, like the moon .
