Smell

An aroma is a pleasant fragrance.

Aroma is a fragrance or perfume , usually pleasant. It is, therefore, something that is captured through the sense of smell .

The etymology of the term takes us to the Latin word arōma , which comes from the Greek árōma ( used to refer to a plant with a noticeable odor and even a perfume).

What is a scent

What we know as aroma is a chemical compound that is made up of odorous particles, which are released from volatile elements and move through the air. These particles enter the nose through the nasal passages and begin their journey through the olfactory system until the person is able to process them.

It should be noted that the human being 's olfactory capacity is very limited if we compare it with the powers that other species have. For a long time it was estimated that a person could recognize about 10,000 aromas . Recent studies, however, maintain that the human nose distinguishes between a trillion aromas . In any case, humans have less olfactory capacity than cats, dogs and birds, to name a few species.

An aroma can generate pleasant sensations.

Its importance

Aromas help detect and evaluate the state of food and environmental hazards (such as the smell generated by a fire) and are also important on an organic level to establish a pair. A scent, on the other hand, can be linked to a memory to bring a representation of it to the present.

When a person registers an aroma, the smell can cause different sensations. The aroma of freshly baked bread, for example, can stimulate appetite and make you want to eat. The aroma of decomposing meat, on the other hand, will generate the opposite.

The term aroma in culture

Within the cultural sphere, Aroma is the name of a female group that has several albums on the market. Among them are “Olfato feminine” , “Amor de tres” and “A hole called rock'n roll” .

In the same way, there are artistic works that also use this term in their titles. This would be the case, for example, of the song “Aroma” by the band Oshare Kei Antic Café . It is a single from 2009 and is part of the album titled “BB Parallel World” .

In the literary field, also, there are many books that use this word. Examples are “The aroma of crime” by Xabier Gutiérrez , “Aroma de mujer” by Javier María Torres Vigueras and “The aroma of spices” by Charlotte Betts .

A chain of perfumeries

We cannot ignore the existence of a chain of perfumeries in Spain called Aromas . This chain was launched in the 1960s in Seville by the Cardoso family.

In the 80s and 90s was when this firm was promoted even more, which gave rise to a great expansion that has led it to have numerous stores not only spread throughout Andalusia but also in Extremadura and the Community of Madrid .
