Alien

Alien

An alien is an extraterrestrial.

Alien is an adjective that is used to describe that which is extraterrestrial (that is, that arrived from outer space to Earth ). The concept, coming from the Latin word alienigĕna , is usually used with reference to supposed living beings that have their origin on other planets.

It is important to keep in mind that science has not yet been able to prove the existence of extraterrestrial life . Therefore, we do not know if there really are alien creatures, or if they have really made contact with our planet as so many stories tell. Many people, based on their beliefs or research not supported by the scientific method, maintain that aliens do exist.

Alien observation

Throughout history , various cases have been raised as evidence of alien life. These are generally footage and photographs showing unidentified flying objects ( UFOs ). Since science cannot determine the origin of UFOs, there are those who claim that they are extraterrestrial vehicles and therefore transport aliens.

On occasions, images of beings designated as aliens have been disseminated. Even the so-called Roswell Case is famous, the record of the alleged fall of a UFO in the American town of Roswell in 1947 . Some reports claim that the UFO was an extraterrestrial spacecraft and that aliens were traveling inside.

unsolved mystery

The mystery that surrounds the possibility that there are beings on other planets , that share with us certain physical and cultural characteristics, has led many people to invent stories of extraterrestrial visits , partly motivated by their fascination with the subject, but also to take advantage from the media and earn large sums of money through interviews and appearances on television shows.

Most of us do not know with certainty if someone has come into contact with beings from other planets, and that is why the illusion remains alive in so many restless minds . We do not have the authority to rule out the possibility that aliens exist, or that they have ever come to Earth ; For this reason, it is important to adopt a respectful stance for those who believe in them, instead of resorting to ridicule or insults.

toy story

In fiction it is common for aliens to appear.

Aliens in fiction

Since fiction , many aliens have become famous. Movies like " ET the Extra-Terrestrial" , the "Alien" saga, "My Friend Mac" , "Star Wars" and "Avatar" ; books like "Martian Chronicles" and "The War of the Worlds" ; and TV series such as "V" , "Mork & Mindy" and "Alf" feature aliens as protagonists.

The first film on the list, "ET, the extraterrestrial" was released in 1982 and is one of the most important cinematographic works in history, both for the technological revolution that it represented for the seventh art and for its moving plot, more human than many stories without aliens. It was written by Melissa Mathison and directed by Steven Spielberg .

Its protagonist, Henry Thomas , who was barely eleven years old at the time, played the role of a boy who establishes a deep friendship with an alien , a relationship that even today has a lot to teach us adults and children. The plot contains messages that revolve around compassion, mutual trust, loyalty and the pain of maturing and letting go of loved ones.

On the other hand is "Alien" , a saga of films that combine elements of horror and science fiction and that in 1979 changed the audience's perspective of alien life forever. Its success led to the publication of comics, video games and an endless list of commercial promotional items. Sigourney Weaver , the protagonist, became an icon of science fiction .
