Roads refers to the construction and maintenance services of public roads.
The first thing we are going to do in order to know the meaning of the term road is to discover its etymological origin. In this case, we can say that it is a word that derives from Latin, specifically it is the result of the sum of two components:
-The term vialis , which can be translated as “what relates to the road.”
-The suffix -dad , which is used to indicate “quality”.
Road concept
The notion of roads is usually used to name the group of services that are linked to the development, maintenance and organization of public roads . The term is also used with reference to road property (what is linked to a road).
For example: "The authorities of the Department of Roads announced that the road will remain closed until the weather conditions improve" , "The Roads machines are already working on the highway" , "The neighbors closed the road in protest" .
The road system must guarantee that the roads are suitable for travel.
An Argentine organization
In Argentina , the National Road Directorate (which is also known as National Roads ) is the state agency that has the purpose of building, maintaining and repairing roads. This entity has machinery and personnel to carry out different types of tasks on the country's routes (highways).
In Argentine territory there are also Provincial Road Directorates which, as their name indicates, are linked to the provincial administration . In this sense, we can mention the Provincial Road Directorate of Neuquén , the Provincial Road Directorate of Mendoza and others.
The Directorate of Roads in Chile
In Chile , on the other hand, there is also what has been called the Highway Directorate , which is an organization dependent on the Ministry of Public Works . Specifically, this aforementioned institution is responsible for offering a long list of services and procedures, such as the following:
-Search for tenders.
-Authorizations to allow access to public roads.
-Create the highway manual, which is then made available to any citizen who wishes to consult it.
-The design of informative signage on public roads.
-The information corresponding to what interactive transit is.
-The creation and development of the National Viability Laboratory.
The aforementioned laboratory, which has been operating in the Chilean country for seventy-five years, has the clear mission of proceeding to keep under control the quality of the entire set of road works carried out. Human and material resources are the main elements that allow this institution to ensure that all the infrastructures provided are optimal and promote and improve the quality of life of citizens.
The notion in Mexico
The idea of roads, in Mexico , is used as a synonym for street (the roads that allow the movement of vehicles).
Therefore, when talking about a road network or road system, reference is made to the set of streets and avenues that are used for the circulation of cars, motorcycles, etc.: “The most important roads in the city are located in poor condition” , “The snowfall forced the closure of several roads in the region” .
