Video Graphics Array

VGA is the acronym for Video Graphics Array.

VGA is the acronym that corresponds to the English expression Video Graphics Array . It is a graphics system introduced by the American company International Business Machines ( IBM ) in the late 1980s and which became, due to its popularity, a kind of standard for personal computers.

VGA graphics cards feature a single integrated circuit that, in their original versions, can display 16- and 256-color palettes. These video cards have a refresh rate with a limit of 70 Hz and are capable of displaying up to a total of 800 pixels horizontally and 600 lines .

History of VGA

Those first cards had a memory of 256 KB and allowed a resolution of 320 x 200 (using 256 colors ) or 640 x 480 (using 16 colors ). Importantly, the VGA standard could emulate all the modes that preceded it, such as MDA , CGA, and EGA . It should be noted, on the other hand, that the VGA connector, present in most PC monitors and video cards, has 15 pins .

After the rise of VGA , an evolution known as Super VGA or SVGA began to develop. The IBM format that officially replaced it, however, is the Extended Graphics Array ( XGA ).

A VGA cable has 15 pins.

Other interesting facts about the cable

Other interesting facts about the VGA cable are the following:

  • As a general rule, they usually have a total of fourteen pins inside.
  • It can be used, currently, on any type of computer.
  • Thanks to it, it is possible to display the graphics before the installation of the corresponding video driver is undertaken.
  • In the same way, it must be taken into account that it can be replaced at an economical price.

VGA files

We also cannot ignore that there are VGA type files that, on numerous occasions, create problems. There are many users who, at some point, have come across a file of this type that they cannot open.

In that case, the causes of said situation may be different, although among the most significant are those that make it clear that there is a more or less serious failure in the Windows operating system. Hence, what is recommended is that the equipment be scanned in order to detect it before it generates a really dangerous situation.

However, it may happen that this file does not open because you do not have the appropriate program.

In addition to all the above, it should be noted that the files in question are system files that are related to OS/2 Bitmap Image , FileViewPro and VGA Screen Driver .

Awards for the best video games

Keep in mind that VGA is also the acronym for Video Game Awards , which today are known as VGX .

These awards , granted by an American TV channel, distinguish the best video games of each year.
