The term time can be used associated with an alternation of elements according to an order.

Vez is a term commonly used in everyday life, which comes from the Latin vicis and is easy to understand but somewhat difficult to explain. The first meaning mentioned in the dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy ( RAE ) refers to the alternation of elements according to an order or a certain turn .

For example: “Please respect the assigned positions and enter the room one at a time” , “Don't all speak at the same time! "I don't understand what they want to tell me," "The young man distributed the gifts one at a time until all the children received their gift."

Time as fact, action or replacement

The idea of time is used to name the fact or action that is carried out at a certain moment : “The last time I was in Europe I visited the Louvre Museum” , “I lost the keys again” , “The Córdoba team won for the first time in the tournament.”

Suppose that two basketball teams ( Club Puerto Esteban and Club San Marcos ) faced each other twice, with a victory for each one. It can be said that Puerto Esteban won the first time, while San Marcos won the second time.

When the notion is used in the plural ( times ), it can refer to the one or thing that replaces or represents another or others : “Since María left, I have to act as a mother,” “A technical director must act as a mother.” "as a psychologist when a player is unmotivated."

Children's literature

"Once upon a time" is an expression that is frequently used at the beginning of children's stories.

The term in different expressions

The term once, on the other hand, is used to construct frequently used expressions . It is common for children's stories to begin with the expression “Once upon a time…” , to cite one case. The phrases “first time” , “again” or “last time” are also frequently used.

We can also name the question “who gives the turn?” . This is done, in some regions, by a person who comes to a market to buy and discovers more customers in the same place. By asking who gives the time, she is trying to find out who is the person who will buy before her and, therefore, who she is after in order to purchase her products.

The notion of time in music

Within the cultural sphere, we find a long list of songs that use the term in question in their title. Among the most significant are:

  • “Once upon a time…a circus.” It is a composition that, in the decades of the 70s and 80s , was popularized by the famous Payasos de la Tele . These gave shape to a children's group, dressed like clowns, who toured the world bringing joy to the little ones with songs such as “Susanita has a mouse” , “My beard has three hairs” , “How my nose itches” and “I was “Mr. Cat”
  • “For once.” Song performed by the Spanish artist Malú that also shapes the title of one of her albums, specifically the first one she performed entirely live. It was published in 2004 and was recorded at the Sala Pachá in Madrid , where it featured the collaboration of great singers such as Alejandro Sanz , Vanesa Martín and Pablo Alborán .
