Vertex

Cube

The vertex is the point where the segments that generate an angle join and the point where three or more planes merge.

The concept of vertex comes from the Latin word vertex . From the perspective of geometry , the vertex is the name given to the point that marks the union between the segments that originate an angle or where a minimum of three planes merge. The apex of a cone or a pyramid is also known as a vertex, as is the maximum or minimum point of a curved line.

In graph theory , each vertex is considered to be the fundamental unit that composes a graph . Undirected graphs consist of vertices and edges (i.e., unordered pairs of vertices), while directed graphs consist of vertices and arcs (ordered pairs of vertices).

Vertex in cartography, topography and geodesy

The concept is also used in cartography and topography to name the point on a surface whose altitude is greater than that of all the other points adjacent to it. In this sense, the term is synonymous with summit or peak and refers, for example, to the highest part of a mountain.

The so-called geodetic vertex , for its part, identifies a signal that is used to indicate a specific location within the framework of a set of triangles (made up, in turn, of other geodetic vertices).

Top

In topography, vertex is synonymous with summit.

A publishing house and an audiovisual distributor

Likewise, we cannot overlook the fact that Vértice was the name of a Spanish publishing house that specialised in the production of comics and, in particular, in the translation of those from the legendary Marvel comics. This company operated until the beginning of the 1980s, allowing Spanish children, and also adults, to enjoy the adventures of Spiderman, by Stan Lee, or Colonel Fury, by Jim Steranko.

It should also be noted that within the world of entertainment there is an audiovisual distributor called Vértice Cine. It is the result of the merger of Notro Films and Manga Films.

Vertex in rock

And all this without forgetting that the term we are analysing is the name of two musical groups. One of them, still in use today, is part of the rock genre and its members come from the Spanish city of Valladolid.

The second group mentioned has already disappeared and was very important in the Catalan music world back in the 60s and 70s. The blues was the field in which it moved especially although it also made incursions into more symphonic rock. Its members only managed to record two songs ("You're not real" and "Take me Away") in a mini album that was called "Diabolo" and that was made in 1970 in the famous GMA studios.

The notion in anatomy

For anatomy , finally, the vertex is determined by the highest area of the head of vertebrates and arthropods.

In humans, the cranial vertex is composed of the frontal bone, the parietal bones, and the occipital bone, joined together by the coronal suture, the sagittal suture, and the lambdoid suture.
