Version , from the Latin versum , is the way each subject has of doing something or reporting the same event . For example: "I'm going to give you a try of my version of tiramisu: I do it by modifying the traditional recipe" , "The version of events narrated by the accused differs from the one pronounced by the witnesses" , "The mayor assured that he never heard the press version .
The concept is also used to name the forms adopted by the interpretation of a theme, the text of a work, etc. : “I don't like this artist's version of 'Cambalache',” “The playwright presented a free version of the classic Greek tragedy,” “The director is working on a new version of Alfred Hitchcock's classic that promises to generate great controversy.” ” .
The idea of a version linked to the language of a film
Within the world of the seventh art, in addition to the meaning already stated, it is important to establish that the term version is used very frequently. Thus, for example, when we go to see a movie in any cinema we find that, sometimes, the billboard tells us that a film is in its original version.
What that means is that the feature film has not been dubbed. Thus, if it has been made in the United States it will be in English while if it is a French production it will be in French and this will be how it can be seen in the cinema.
However, in these cases another possibility is also raised since it can also be indicated that it is projected in the original version with subtitles. This can indicate two things: that the film that is in the language that was recorded includes subtitles in it, or that these subtitles are presented as a translation in the language of the country where it is being projected.
A Spanish TV program
In addition to all this, we would have to highlight that in Spain there is a very important television program regarding cinematographic themes. We are referring to the “Spanish Version” space, which is broadcast on La 2.
The actress and journalist Cayetana Guillén Cuervo is the presenter of that one, whose clear objective is to promote cinema made in Spanish and specifically in Spain. For this reason, the programming of a film of these characteristics is carried out weekly and the director, producer or actors of the film are also on the set.
Software version
The version of a software is a number or name assigned to a computer program to mention its level of development and its update . The usual thing is that the version is given by two numbers, separated by a period. The first number is the largest (or major , in English), while the second is the smallest ( minor ). The major changes when large changes or qualitative leaps occur in development and the minor varies with smaller alterations or corrections.
Thus, software version 1.3 refers to the first major version of a computer program that already has three minor modifications. The next development may be version 1.4 or, if it is a major modification, it will be renamed 2.1 .
