Definition of

Veiled

Funeral

When an individual is laid to rest, their remains are dismissed by their loved ones.

Veiled is the wife or husband who has legitimacy. However, this use of the concept - indicated by the Royal Spanish Academy ( RAE ) in its dictionary - is not very common in everyday language.

More common is the meaning of veiled as a conjugation of the verb velar which, in turn, also has several meanings. One of them indicates that watching is accompanying a deceased person as a farewell. The subject who is veiled, in this sense, is being honored by his or her loved ones.

For example: “The popular singer will be veiled at the National Congress,” “When my father was veiled, we all attended except my uncle, since he could not bear the guilt of having survived the accident ,” “According to what was reported by his family, the murdered man will be laid to rest at a funeral home in the San Jorge neighborhood and then will be buried in the Municipal Cemetery.”

The veiling ritual

The wake (also called wake or viewing in some countries) is a meeting in which all the individuals close to a deceased person accompany their body for a few hours before it is cremated or buried.

It is worth mentioning that not all human beings are veiled with a present body; In some cases, the deceased is in a different room than the one used for the meeting , or even in another building or geographic region, depending on the circumstances.

This custom is not accepted by everyone; There are people who do not want to be veiled, just as some do not want to be buried. Death is an inevitable topic, but very difficult to deal with in many cultures, especially in Western ones, where it usually causes too much pain to mention it, but there are those who take it naturally and refuse to participate in any celebration of a spiritual nature.

Similarly, some believe that viewing the deceased represents a lack of respect, an unnecessary exposure of their remains, which should be buried or cremated.

Photograph

Glazing of a photographic roll occurs when it is exposed to light improperly and the images are lost.

The act of protecting

Watching can also be the act of protecting or caring . In this way, the idea of veil can be linked to this meaning: “Mr. Martínez has looked after the well-being of his employees throughout his life” , “The judge considered that the parents have not looked after the interest of the child” , “ “We have always ensured the safety of the president.”

In this sense, we can find various definitions in the RAE dictionary, such as the following: "stand guard during the night" , "take care of a sick person while he sleeps" , "observe something carefully" .

If a person looks out for the interests of another, it is likely that he or she shares them, has genuine feelings for them, and really wants to help them. Of course, when this is transferred to the sphere of companies and their clients, there are always their own interests , focused on the perception of monetary benefits .

Other uses of the term veiled

Another meaning of the term veiled refers to information that has been "covered" by someone to prevent others from accessing it; On the contrary, it is possible to "reveal" said information, that is, show it to those who could not see it before.

In the field of analog photography , a film becomes blurred when it is exposed to light improperly and, therefore, loses the images in whole or in part . Before the popularity of digital cameras, this unfortunate incident was very common when removing the film from the device without taking the precaution of rewinding it.
