Hesitate

Dude

Hesitating implies hesitating or doubting.

Hesitant is a verb that is used with different meanings according to the context. The term came to our language from the Latin word vacillāre .

Hesitating can be the action of doubting , hesitating or faltering . For example : “A striker should never hesitate if he is alone in front of the goalkeeper,” “When his mother asked him where he had gone after dinner, the young man began to hesitate,” “If you disrespect me again, I won't go.” to hesitate before hitting you in the face."

Examples of hesitate

Hesitation, in this context, is a state of doubt or perplexity . Suppose that, in an exam, a teacher asks a student what the capital of Nepal is. If the student answers “Kathmandu” immediately, he or she will have answered without hesitation. On the other hand, if you start babbling and going around before answering, you will be hesitating since you are not sure what the correct answer is.

The verb hesitate, on the other hand, can refer to that which moves without pause or that appears unstable , with little firmness: “After the detonation, the building hesitated for a few seconds before collapsing” , “I hope that the wind stops the window stops hesitating” , “The car will hesitate when cornering, but don't worry: if you drive carefully, you won't have any problems” .

Perplexity

By hesitating, the person is in a state of perplexity.

The notion in colloquial speech

In the colloquial speech of some countries , hesitating means making fun of or deceiving someone : “I think the boy hesitated when he told me that the road was in good condition,” “When I see Ernesto, I'm going to hesitate because photo that was published in the newspaper.”

In relation to this last meaning, we can state that there are those who, as a tool to "hook up" , resort to flirting with the person they like. It is clear that it is not an effective technique, since each individual prefers some things and not others, but in many cases it is usually useful.

Specifically, putting it into practice basically consists of attracting the other's attention but not "gifting" their ear with beautiful phrases, words of love or even compliments, but quite the opposite. It consists of "teasing" him , of getting his attention without showing that you want to flirt in order to prevent him from being defensive and then, once you have gotten him to relax, proceed to develop seduction skills but without falling into clichés.

This technique of hesitating is considered to be a good option to try to get people who are very successful on a romantic level and who are used to "flirting" .

Hesitate and bacillate

Furthermore, we must highlight the fact that many people make mistakes when writing this term since they confuse it with bacillary . However, they are different verbs. Thus, bacillary is what is used to refer to two aspects:

  • On the one hand, within the field of medicine and biology, it refers to everything that has to do with bacilli .
  • On the other hand, in the field of geology it is used to mention that which is identified by having a thick fiber texture .
