Die

marking device

A die is a device with edges for marking paper or cardboard.

Die is a term that has several uses. It can be used to name the device whose edges allow marking paper , cardboard or other material so that it can be easily cut by hand. By extension, objects that can be cut out thanks to this type of design are known as dies.

For example: "We have to buy a new die for the printing press" , "To use this promotion, the user must present the die that the company sent along with the invoice" , "Please cut the voucher for the die and Present it to the claims office .

Utility of the die

What the die does, as an instrument, is create marks, perforations and semi-cuts on the surface of the material to be die-cut. There are different types of dies (flat, rotary, etc.) that, thanks to their design, offer different kinds of results.

The mechanical action carried out with a die is known as die cutting . The purpose of die cutting, as we already said, is to create the necessary marking on cardboard, paper, metal , etc. so that the material can be cut in a simple way. The home or office hole puncher can be considered a simple die since it allows you to punch sheets.

Coin

The mold used to mint coins or medals is called a die.

The term in the industry

In the case of the industry that is specialized in cardboard manufacturing, various data of interest must be presented. Thus, for example, it must be taken into account that the die must have a series of fundamental parts such as rubber bands, blades or cutting strips and the base of a matrix.

In the same way, it is necessary to make it clear that in this sector it is common to use two different types of dies: rotary or flat . This is used, in the same way, to carry out the manufacture of footwear.

The die as a mold

A die, on the other hand, can be a mold that is used to mint medals , coins and other similar pieces. Composed of steel, these dies have the figure they intend to coin engraved in bas-relief.

The place that has this type of dies to mint coins is known as Casa de la Moneda or Mint . In fact, this word (ceca) comes from the Arabic sikka , which can be translated precisely as "die" .

A play and an editorial

"El troquel" is also the name of a play by Ignacio Pajón Leyra , which has been performed in Madrid under the direction of Eva Egido Leiva . In this proposal, what is left on the table is the essence of the society in which we live. And the fact is that we citizens allow ourselves to be carried away by fashions and trends that mean that we are all copies of everyone else and not original and authentic people.

In the same way, we cannot ignore the existence of the famous Editorial Troquel . It is based in Buenos Aires and has a very extensive catalog of books, where numerous topics that interest readers are addressed. Specifically, it has works on self-help, on Buddhism, on Christianity, on pedagogy, on psychology, stories, works for children and youth, on business or education in values, among many others.
