Streak

Line

A stroke is a line that is written or drawn without lifting the pencil or brush from the surface.

The first thing we are going to do is determine the etymological origin of the word stroke that concerns us now. By doing so we will discover that it emanates from Latin, and specifically from the word tractus , which can be translated as "dragged."

A stroke is a line or dash . The term is used to name the straight lines and curves that form a character or that are written by hand without lifting the writing instrument (pencil, pen, etc.) from the surface .

The stroke in different alphabets

In our alphabet, the number of strokes is irrelevant from a formal point of view. What matters is that these lines are clear so that the written information is easy to understand: “You have very neat lines, you look like an artist,” “The teacher ordered me to rewrite the assignment since the lines are unclear.”

In some oriental alphabets, such as Japanese or Chinese, characters are classified according to the number of strokes they contain. Chinese writing has eight types of basic strokes, while the rest are formed from the combination of different strokes.

The concept in the drawing and as a draft

In the same way, we cannot ignore the existence of what is known as drawing by line. What is meant by this is that someone is carrying out what is marking the contour of any figure and does it more accurately by creating a line through it.

Known as a stroke, on the other hand, is the delineation with which the design of a thing is formed . The lines, in this sense, are drafts or tentative ideas, which will be corrected and perfected over time: “I am working on a new work, although for now I only have the basic lines,” “My grandmother wants to weave a loom with the “Frida Kahlo’s face: the main lines have already been drawn.”

Art

Line and construction

In the field of construction , the layout is the process that consists of measuring a territory to define the dimensions that a work will have. The stroke establishes the basic shape of the surface and indicates the sides where the walls will rise.

In order to carry out the layout of a work in question, it is essential that, privately, the professional or professionals in charge of the work have a plan where the measurements of the work are clearly established. In this way, and using rods and ropes as well as plaster, this task will be carried out.
