The concept of volume is usually used with reference to the segmentation of a written work . A writer may decide to divide a book into several parts: each of these parts is known as a volume.
For example: “Next year the third volume of this saga will go on sale,” “My mother gave me the fourth volume of the Universal Encyclopedia of Knowledge,” “Marcos has already read the six volumes of that work.”
Starting from that meaning, we can state that the word tome derives from Latin. Specifically, it comes from the term “tomus”, which was used to define the part or section of a larger work and which was used for the first time in the 1st century. Specifically, it was used in a work by the poet Marcial and some time later. in another by Marcus Cornelio Frontón.
However, we must not forget that this Latin word in turn derives from the Greek “tomos”, which is used to refer to a part or court.
Typically, the idea of a volume is linked to the writer's intention when segmenting his work. In many cases, however, the author's desire coincides with the will of his editor. In this way, the physical divisions of the work coincide with the thematic axes decided by the creator.
Larger works , such as encyclopedias, are those that are usually segmented into several volumes. This is because it is impractical, and sometimes even impossible from a binding point of view, to include so much information in a single printed work. The division of the work into volumes, on the other hand, facilitates marketing: a person can buy one volume per month of the same work until the collection is complete, to name one possibility.
I take , finally, is a conjugation of the verb take (which can be understood as drinking or grabbing): “I thank you for the invitation, but I don't drink wine,” “When I go and take the iron, I receive an electric shock,” “I take to forget the sorrows, my friend.”
To all of the above we must also add that Tomo is also a personal name, specifically a male name. It has Latin origin and is considered to belong to idealistic, friendly men, very perfectionist in everything they do, sometimes very punctilious, with an enviable strength to face challenges and who reject conflicts and violence at all times.
Throughout history there have been different people who have been responsible for popularizing that name, as would be the case of the following:
-Tomo Milicevic (1979). He is a Yugoslavian musician, especially guitarist and drummer, who has become known worldwide as a member of the rock band “30 seconds to Mars”.
-I take Cesen (1959). He is a Slovenian mountaineer who has achieved great international recognition for having ascended the Alps and the Himalayas alone.
Likewise, in some countries of the world such as Japan it is also used as a female name.
