comic strip

cartoon

A comic strip is a comic strip whose main objective is to offer entertainment.

Strip is a notion with multiple meanings. On this occasion we are interested in staying with its meaning as a comic strip : a succession of drawings that, as a whole, develop a story . Comic , on the other hand, is something that causes laughter or provides fun.

A comic strip , therefore, is a story that aims to entertain the reader . The concept usually refers to the cartoons that appear regularly in a newspaper or magazine . The usual thing is that it has fixed characters, who star in different stories throughout the strips.

Characteristics of a comic strip

There are comic strips that are daily : that is, they are published every day. Others, however, appear once a week . Daily strips typically consist of a few frames, while weekly strips typically take up an entire page.

The story probably begins and ends in the same comic strip. However, in some cases, the stories are spread across several comic strips , or at least the successive strips are related to each other.

Diary

Many comic strips are published in newspapers.

Drawings and texts

Sometimes the comic strip is drawn and written by the same person. That is the case of “Mafalda” , the famous comic strip created by the Argentine Quino .

In other comics, one person is in charge of the drawings and another is in charge of the texts. In its beginnings, the comic strip “Diógenes y el linyera” was drawn by Tabaré , but scripted by Carlos Abrevaya and Jorge Guinzburg .

Examples of famous comic strips

In addition to everything we have revealed so far, it is important to discover some of the comic strips that have become significant throughout history or especially important. This would be the case of the following:

-It is considered that the first comic strip that achieved significant success was the daily newspaper titled “Mutt and Jeff.” It appeared in the American publications “San Francisco Chronicle” and “San Francisco Examiner,” which had been created by Bud Fisher and was later continued by other artists such as Al Smith, Ken Kling, Ed Mack and George Breisacher. It first saw the light of day in 1907 and continued until the 1980s. It revolved around two friends who always accidentally got into hilarious and even embarrassing situations.

-Another of the most recognized comic strips in history is “Garfield”, created in 1978 by Jim Davis and whose objective was to “make fun” of people who had pets. Hence, the protagonists of it were the cat that gives it its name and its owner, who always seems to act as his “servant.”

-In the same way, we must not forget the strip “Calvin and Hobbes”, which appeared for the first time in 1985 and is the work of Bill Watterson. It revolves around a 6-year-old boy and his stuffed tiger, which he considers real.

Today, many comics are published digitally and readers can access them through websites .
