Informative text

Newspaper

Informative texts usually appear in newspapers.

An informative text aims to transmit reality objectively, since it tries to make known a fact, situation or circumstance as it happened.

Information is the organized set of data that, through interpretation and rational use, can become knowledge. A text , for its part, is a coherent group of statements that form a unit of meaning and that have communicative intent.

Objectivity is sought with the use of denotative language (which admits only one meaning) and the absence of emotions or affective expressions. For example: "Boca Juniors beat River Plate 2 to 0" is an informative text. On the other hand, "A great Boca Juniors gave a playing lesson to the apathetic River Plate by 2 to 0" is a text that exceeds information, since certain concepts ( "great" , "playing lesson" , "apathetic" ) are purely subjective.

Characteristics of an informative text

Specifically, we can establish that the language of this type of text can also be characterized by the following identifying features:

  • It must be very precise . By this what we mean is that nothing should be left to ambiguity. It has to be clear, direct and without resorting to resources such as metaphors or double interpretations.
  • Correct . In this case, it means that you cannot allow any type of errors to appear in it, whether spelling or syntactic.
  • Perfect use of paragraphs. In any informative text, different types of paragraphs can be used, specifically three: descriptive , expository and comparison . When using any of them, you must choose to know how to establish them correctly based on what you want to transmit at all times.

In addition to everything stated above, we have to make it clear that there is another series of basic rules about the structure and essence of this type of texts. Thus, it must be emphasized that, as a general rule, in them the most important thing comes at the beginning and that what they tell us is something real that happened in the past or has happened now.

Library

There are books that are made up of informative texts.

Its use in different areas

Where can we find this type of text, the informative one? In many places. Thus, for example, they are the basis for newspapers , magazines and encyclopedias . In any of these three different publications we have before us texts whose sole and main function is to inform us of a specific fact in the simplest, clearest and most explanatory way possible.

The informative text, on the other hand, does not pursue any aesthetics. In general terms, it can be said that it does not pay attention to the form, but to the content , which must be presented with cohesion and coherence so that the reader can interpret the information correctly. For this reason, metaphors and linguistic resources that can produce erroneous interpretation are ignored in informative texts.

The exposition , description and comparison , as we already indicated, appear within the structure of the informative text, which usually has a brief introduction, a longer development and a conclusion similar in length to the introduction.
