A fabric is a material made up of multiple threads.

A fabric is a flexible sheet made up of many threads that are intertwined in a regular and alternating manner along its entire length. Fabrics can be works woven on a loom or similar ones that are made up of aligned series of stitches or loops made with the same thread.

In this sense, fabric is the main component of most clothing . The clothing industry relies on fabrics to make T-shirts, shirts, pants and all kinds of garments. The characteristics of fabrics can vary according to their permeability, tenacity and elasticity, for example.

Various types of fabrics

There are many different types of fabrics; some are woven from organic materials , others are synthetically produced and, depending on the material they are made from, they can be used for certain garments . Some types of fabrics are:

* Acetate : is a fabric artificially manufactured from acetate fiber threads extracted from cellulose; it has the characteristic of not shrinking, wrinkling or fading and is often used for the production of lingerie items and evening dresses.

* Acrylics : This is a fabric similar to wool that has the characteristic of presenting absolutely clear colors and is a highly recommended alternative to wool.

* Cashmere : This is an extremely soft fabric with a silk-like appearance; it is often used to make high-quality coats and dresses.

* Chiffon or Tulle : similar to silk gauze, it is a light and semi-transparent fabric that is often used in blouses and scarves that will be used in ceremonies that will take place at sunset.

* Damask : This is a reversible fabric that is often used to create tablecloths, curtains, and cushion or mattress covers.

*Dril : is a firm cotton fabric that resembles denim in texture. Due to its firmness, it is ideal for the manufacture of uniforms, sports clothing , tablecloths and fabrics used in industrial settings and work clothes.

* Flannel : also known as flannel, it is extremely soft, with a slightly satiny surface that prevents the weaves of the fabric from being seen. It is used to make jackets, skirts, dresses and suits and requires careful handling, otherwise it can shrink and become damaged.

* Nylon : This is a highly resistant and elastic synthetic fabric. It has the quality of being easy to wash, not being absorbent and drying quickly. It is often used in the manufacture of fabrics of various characteristics and knitwear; also for underwear (stockings, socks, women's underwear) and sweaters.

Other uses of the term

On the other hand, certain membranes of soft consistency (such as the tissue of the heart or the brain), the cream that is generated in certain liquids, and canvases in the field of painting are known as fabric.

In colloquial language, and depending on the region, the term tela refers to money ( "I have a lot of fabric to spend tonight" ) or to a specific matter or issue ( "The national team's last game has left a lot of fabric to cut" ).

It is worth noting that spiders have the ability to form a type of web, which they use to catch different insects and eat them. This web emerges from the different glands found in the spider's abdomen. So far, seven types of glands have been identified that produce seven different silk threads. However, each spider species has only a few of these types, but never all seven glands.
