Tarifa 's main industry is tourism , since thousands of people come seduced by the beauty of its beaches and the possibility of doing different water sports such as windsurfing.

Its sandy beaches and its wonderful climate are, without a doubt, the two main attractions that Tarifa has for tourism. However, we must not forget that it has a wide collection of monuments of unmatched beauty and value, among which the following stand out:

  • Guzmanes Castle . This fortress dates back to the 10th century , built under the reign of Abd al-Rahman III, which served primarily as a military and protective enclave. Its caliphal towers and its imposing silhouette make it a great attraction.
  • Church of Santiago . This temple dating back to the 14th century was built on the remains of an ancient mosque.
  • St. Matthew's Church . Of marked Gothic style is this religious construction, erected in the 16th century , which has become the most important in Tarifa . It was also built on a mosque and has elements as beautiful and worthy of admiration as its façade, the Chapel of the Tabernacle or the Main Altarpiece , which was made on an older one that has already disappeared.

Another attraction of Tarifa is the historic center of the city, located within medieval walls that are preserved on its perimeter. The homes in this center exhibit the typical style of Andalusian architecture and surprise visitors from all over the world.
