Suspension

School

In the school environment, suspension is a common punishment.

Suspension is a term originating from the Latin suspensio that has several meanings. The first of them, according to the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE) , is linked to the fact and result of suspending (holding something high, interrupting something for a certain time, provisionally stripping a person of a right).

Suspension can be a punishment , a sentence , or a reprimand in response to certain behavior. It is usually related to some discipline system or a code of behavior. For example: "The Manchester United forward has complied with the first of the three suspension dates imposed by the Disciplinary Court" , "Tomorrow I cannot go to school: they gave me a two-day suspension for fighting with a classmate" , " The suspension imposed on the official means that he will not receive his salary for three months .

In chemistry , meanwhile, a suspension is a heterogeneous mixture composed of a solid that is dispersed in a gaseous or liquid medium.

Vehicle suspension

The objective of working to ensure that vehicles allow a comfortable trip with less and less shaking, led the scientists to devise a system that would distribute the blows that a part of the car took to other points, so that the shock wave of the blow would be diluted and travelers would not feel them in an exaggerated way.

The function of the suspension, therefore, is to absorb the sudden vibrations that occur in the bodywork due to different road imperfections and offering a stable and safe ride for the passengers of said vehicle.

That said, it should be noted that the term in this area refers to the set of elements that act between the parts of the car that are suspended and those that are not, acting as shock absorbers when both parts meet, if these elements are not, at the same time. If these parts are found, a crash would occur that would affect the entire vehicle , affecting the stability and reliability of the passengers. To carry out an effective job, these elements must be resistant and as elastic as possible; Not only the regular running of the vehicle but also its grip on the ground depends on them.

In the field of cars and vehicles in general, the suspension is made up of a series of units and devices that are responsible for cushioning road imperfections and ensuring that the body rests on the axles of its wheels in such a way. soft and elastic.

A vehicle's suspension helps cushion road imperfections.

Classification according to type

There are various types of suspension , some that link all the wheels through an elastic system (so that the movement is transmitted from one to the other) and others that are independent (the elastic elements are not dynamically related).

Active suspensions have a pneumatic or hydraulic scheme that is able to produce forces to balance the pitch and roll of the car. Hydropneumatic suspensions , for their part, have nitrogen so that vehicle control is smoother.

On the other hand, another way of classifying the types of suspension is under the concepts of conventional suspension (the one used in cargo vehicles or vehicles that must carry a lot of weight, such as means of public transportation, and is characterized by having a chassis and functioning with a shock absorber that allows you to control and absorb vibrations, softening the shocks) and McPherson suspension (it also has a shock absorber but is of a more modern construction since it unifies the body and the wheels with the steering system, making the movement of the vehicle much smoother. ).
