Point out

Said is an adjective that allows us to refer to that or that which, in the context of a statement, was previously mentioned.

Said is an adjective that is used with reference to that or that which, within the framework of a speech or an enunciation, was previously mentioned . For example: “The aforementioned lives in a precarious house, next to the train station,” “According to the aforementioned deputy, the bill will be discussed in the next session of the Legislature,” “The aforementioned sanction will prevent the player from play the final of the tournament.”

Before moving forward it is important to determine the etymological origin of the term. In this sense, it should be noted that it derives from Latin and is the result of the sum of two clearly differentiated parts:

  • Suso , which comes from the Latin word sursum , obtained from the union of the prefix sub- (which means "under" ) and the adjective versus (synonymous with "turned" ).
  • Said , which comes from the verb dicere (translatable as “to say” ).

Examples of use of above

The referent of the concept , of course, depends on the context . In the following text, the aforementioned idea mentions a singer: “Marc Anthony arrived in the country to offer five concerts. The aforementioned arrives from the United States, where he toured several locations." On the other hand, below we can find an expression in which the notion of above points to a footballer: “With three goals from Cristiano Ronaldo, Real Madrid defeated Valencia as a visitor. The performance of the aforementioned was described as 'memorable' by the Spanish press."

It is important to keep in mind that the above does not always refer to a person : “The congress was attended by fourteen specialists from all over the world. According to the organizers, more than two hundred people attended the different conferences and talks. It should be noted that, for the aforementioned event to take place, the local government invested about 40,000 pesos . As can be seen, in this case the aforementioned term refers to a congress.

Individual

In colloquial language, anyone who does not wish to be named is mentioned as the aforementioned.

Different connotations

Sometimes, said is used in a derogatory or ironic way , with the intention of not naming an individual : “I prefer not to talk to the said, otherwise we will end up fighting again.”

Nowadays, we can almost determine that, at a colloquial level, on the rare occasions in which people use the term in question, it is precisely with this derogatory tone that we have exposed. It is usually used to refer to someone with whom there is a strained, non-existent relationship, full of resentment or with episodes where pain is present.

An example is the one that tells us that a woman uses the word above to refer to the man who was her boyfriend and with whom she is no longer in a relationship because he has cheated on her with another woman. Thus, when having to talk to someone about that subject, they will use the following expression: “The aforementioned now seems different, not only is he going to get married but he is also wanting to have a child as soon as possible. Let's see if he doesn't play that too because infidelity is in his genes."
