The personnel of a company is called staff.

Staff is an English word that is very frequently used in our language . However, the term is not accepted by the Royal Spanish Academy ( RAE ). The Urgent Spanish Foundation ( Fundéu ) also qualifies this anglicism as “unnecessary” since there are Spanish concepts that allow it to be replaced.

The idea of ​​staff refers to the staff or personnel that is part of an organization . The staff, therefore, is the group of workers of a certain entity.

For example: "The director of the hospital congratulated the staff for their work during the health emergency" , "The company's staff held a protest demanding payment of salaries" , "For three years I was part of the Bradding Consulting staff" .

Staff at shows and events

Currently, perhaps where we see the word that concerns us most is when we attend some type of cultural event, such as a concert or a play, for example. And we keep discovering professionals who wear t-shirts with the term staff or accreditations with it. These are individuals who work at that appointment and who, thanks to that aforementioned “distinctive”, have the possibility of accessing spaces that are not open to the general public.

Thus, for example, in a Malú concert we can see men and women from the staff who perform varied but equally important functions for the show to go ahead: they are in charge of the sound, controlling the lighting, facilitating the change of costumes. the artist…

Let's take the case of a small company dedicated to software development. Ten people work in this company: five dedicated to programming, two who are in charge of administration, two who work in the commercial sector and one who serves the public. These ten individuals, therefore, make up the staff of the company in question.

It should be noted that the staff of an organization can change over time. It is likely that a company decides to hire more employees (and, therefore, increase its staff ) when it maintains a good level of sales and needs to increase its production. With the same logic, a company's staff can be reduced through layoffs when the business is not profitable and it is essential to reduce expenses to minimize losses.

Staff, a breed of dog

However, we cannot forget that staff is how a breed of dog is popularly known. We are referring to the “officially” called American Staffordshire Terrier, which is originally from England although it is increasingly present in other countries around the world such as the United States.

Their dogs have developed muscles, their head is wide, their legs are not too long, their tail is short and their chest is wide. All of these characteristics can cause these dogs to be confused with pit bulls.
