Soto

Vegetation

A copse is a space populated by bushes, bushes or trees,

Soto is a term from the Latin saltus , which can be translated as "forest" or "jungle" . The concept is used to name the place populated with trees, bushes, weeds or bushes , or the place that, on the banks, has trees and bushes .

A copse, riparian forest or gallery forest can be the space where vegetation grows and survives thanks to the humidity of the soil on the banks of rivers. The idea of a gallery forest arises from the tunnels that are created when vegetation covers the watercourse. In general, these forests have very lush vegetation, whose species are used by man for different purposes.

Many animals usually live in the woods. When humans drive deforestation through their unsustainable activities, these animals suffer the destruction of their habitat .

Soto, on the other hand, may have a different etymological origin and come from subtus , a term that means "underneath" . This allows the creation of various composite concepts, such as undergrowth , which is the part of the forest that is below the canopy (the upper or highest level). The understory , therefore, is made up of herbs, shrubs and young trees.

Soto del Real

We would also have to highlight that in Spain , specifically in the autonomous community of Madrid , there is the town of Soto del Real . It is a town, formerly known as Chozas de la Sierra , which has approximately 8,500 inhabitants and is located 42 kilometers from the capital.

Its Parish of the Immaculate Conception , its Hermitage of the Virgen del Rosario and its spectacular landscape are three of the values that have given prestige to this town. However, we must not forget that it is well known for the prison it houses in its territory. And the fact is that inmates have entered it and made the front pages of the newspapers, as would be the case of Luis Bárcenas , the former treasurer of the Popular Party involved in a corruption plot.

Nature

The understory develops under the canopy.

a zarzuela

Nor should we forget that one of the most important works of zarzuela is titled "La del soto del parral" . It was written by Luis Fernández de Sevilla and Anselmo C. Carreño and premiered in 1927 .

This work takes place in Segovia in the mid -19th century and brings us closer to the life of a family that lives in a rural environment.
