Website

Website

A website must be able to adapt to different screen formats.

Site is a place that serves something or an occupied space (or that can become so). The notion of Web , for its part, refers to the Internet , a network of networks that allows the interconnection of computers through a set of protocols called TCP/IP .

A website , therefore, is a virtual space on the Internet . It is a set of web pages that are accessible from the same domain or subdomain of the World Wide Web ( WWW ).

Blogs or logs

It is important to establish that on the Internet we find a wide variety of types of websites that tend to differ fundamentally by the type of content they offer or by the service they provide to any of the people who are browsing the Internet.

So, for example, we would have to highlight the well-known blogs. They are a kind of blog in which a particular person makes posts related to their tastes, their hobbies or their knowledge in a relative way. In the same way, there are those who are used simply to tell, in the form of a diary, what happens to them day by day. In order to create these, there are various types of free platforms such as Blogger or WordPress.

Business, personal and other websites

In the same way, we cannot ignore the existence of company websites. As their name indicates, they are those places on the Internet that are used by businesses of various kinds to publicize their products or services. However, they also use them to increase their client base and to maintain a more direct relationship with their clients.

Personal sites are, for their part, those that individuals maintain on different platforms and that they use to display information about themselves, either in writing or through photographs. Examples of them are sites that have many users on social networks such as Facebook, Tuenti or Twitter.

Auction sites, news sites or download sites are other well-known types.

Markup language

The pages that make up a website are developed with the HTML language.

What a website can include

Websites include HTML documents, photos, sounds, videos, Flash animations, and other content that can be shared online. The root URL of the website is known as the cover or homepage . The most common thing is that this cover facilitates access to all the pages of the site through hyperlinks (also known as links or links).

For example: The website of the Argentine newspaper Clarín is located at https://www.clarin.com/ . That is, Clarin.com is the homepage of the site. From there it is possible to access the rest of the pages that make up the site, such as the Espectáculos supplement ( https://www.clarin.com/espectaculos.html ) or the Classifieds ( https://www.clasificados.clarin.com / ).

Free or paid access to websites

Most websites offer their content for free. Others, however, charge a subscription and require a password for access. That is the case of many pornographic sites, stock information or online games, among other services.

It should be noted that to access a website you need to have a browser on your computer. This is a computer program that makes it possible to view the information contained on a web page.
