The muscular system is the set of muscles that are part of an organism . This system provides shape, stability , firmness and mobility to the body.
It should be noted that a system is mentioned as an ordered module of elements that are interrelated and that develop interactions with each other. Muscular , for its part, is that linked to muscles (the organs that are made up of contractile type fibers).
In the case of vertebrate beings, the muscular system is controlled by the nervous system . There are muscles, however, that can function autonomously.
Functioning of the muscular system
The muscular system fulfills very important functions in all beings. On the one hand, it allows the locomotion of the body and even the movement of the organs (digestion and blood circulation, among other issues, depend on the muscles).
Muscles also protect organs, are key in body posture and generate caloric energy. The muscular system, on the other hand, provides data on the physiological state of the organism .
Muscle classification
It is possible to distinguish between three types of muscles in the muscular system: striated muscles , smooth muscles and cardiac muscles . According to how they are controlled, muscles can also be differentiated between autonomous , involuntary , voluntary or mixed .
However, there are many other classifications of the muscles of the human body. Thus, for example, based on their situation, two large groups are established: the superficial ones , which are located directly just under the skin; and the deep ones , which are beyond that mentioned area. The latter we can determine that they have the peculiarity, as a general rule, of meeting the ends of the bones of the skeleton .
In the same way, if we take into account what its shape is, we can establish the existence of the following:
- Short , which are identified by undertaking very specific functions and are located on both the feet and the hands, for example.
- Plans y wide , que no sólo participan en los movimientos de la breathing sino que además proceden a proteger los órganos delicados. Entre los más significativos se encuentran los que están ubicados en el abdomen. Ejemplos son los intercostales o el diafragma.
- Circular , which, as its name indicates, are shaped like a circle and its mission is to close certain ducts that may exist in the human body, such as, for example, the bladder.
All of this without forgetting that they can be classified by the function carried out by the set of muscles that shape the system at hand. In this case, we would be talking about flexors , supinators , abductors , extensors , pronators ...
Problems in the muscular system
The muscular system is susceptible to different disorders and diseases , such as sprains, dystrophies, tears or poliomyelitis.
To minimize inconveniences, doctors recommend physical activity and maintaining a healthy diet. Obesity, for example, can cause serious problems in the muscular system.
