Bodyguard

An entourage is a group of individuals that follows and accompanies a person.

An entourage is a group of people who usually accompany and support an individual , usually an authority or celebrity. The entourage is characterized by applauding and congratulating all the initiatives and sayings of the person they follow.

For example: “The pop idol travels the world with an entourage of collaborators and friends that does not leave him alone for a moment,” “The president is an intelligent man, but the entourage around him is full of sycophants and incapables.” , “He is a good boy, but his entourage is a bad influence.”

Before moving forward, it is interesting to analyze the etymological origin of the term. In this case, we can say that it derives from the Latin sequire , which can be translated as “follow.”

Entourages in different areas

In the world of politics, we usually speak of an entourage to refer to the group of officials, ministers, secretaries and leaders who follow an authority . The members of the entourage stand out for flattering the authority in question at all times, defending it before the media and against possible attacks from the opposition.

Famous musicians , athletes and actors also usually have an entourage that accompanies their movements . In this case, the usual thing is that the entourage is made up of friends and assistants who seek to keep you company and facilitate various questions.

The entourage relationship can be understood as a power relationship: there are people who are subordinate to another whom they follow. The leader grants certain benefits (money, positions, etc.) to the members of the entourage, who in return provide their loyalty , trust and support.

The concept throughout history

Throughout history the most important entourages have been royal ones. And these are still in force in what are, for example, the royal families of Europe . A good example of this is that, some time ago, it was news that Charles of England had established that the bodyguard entourage carried by his daughter-in-law Kate Middleton , the wife of his son Prince William , was only made up of women. And he considers that this is the way to avoid possible cases of infidelity.

In certain historical contexts, the entourage was even a social institution that emerged from the bond between a chief and his followers in times of war. That happened with the Germanic peoples of ancient times.
