Plain

A savannah is an extensive plain with little presence of trees.

Savannah is a concept used to name a large plain that practically lacks trees. It is an ecosystem with low density of vegetation, which is located in subtropical or tropical regions.

There are savannahs that have two very different seasons in terms of rainfall: in one period they suffer droughts and in another, abundant rains. There are also mountainous savannahs , which usually present particular climatic characteristics (different from their surroundings ).

Characteristics of the sheets

Other interesting facts about the savannahs are the following, which help to know them and identify them more clearly:

-They are located in the lower part of the planet, mainly on the African continent. However, that does not prevent them from also existing in South America or India, for example.

-There are three types of savannas, in addition to the mountainous ones: the temperate ones, which have a humid climate with a very dry and cold winter; those of the intertropical zone, which have a temperate climate with a clear alternation of rainy and dry seasons; and the Mediterranean, semi-arid, with poor land and an abundance of animal species such as lions, elephants or giraffes.

-Although there is variety, as a general rule, in the area of flora, bushes and grasses stand out.

-As far as insects are concerned, the presence of horseflies is very common.

-The exploitation of their natural resources and, above all, poaching have become two serious problems for the savannahs. Especially the latter has been occurring for decades, which has caused different animal species to be in serious danger of extinction.

Some examples

One of the best-known savannahs is the one found in the Serengeti National Park , located in Tanzania . This region of the African continent is home to animals such as elephants, leopards, rhinos , lions, giraffes and zebras, among others. That is why safaris to explore this savannah are very popular.

In Colombia there is the Bogotá savanna , located in the Eastern Cordillera . Located at an average altitude of 2,600 meters above sea level, there are experts who claim that, in reality, it is not a savannah, but rather another type of ecosystem.

Bedroom

The sheets are part of the bedding.

The sheets, part of the bedding

When the term is accented on the first letter A ( sheet ), its meaning changes. In this case, a sheet is a textile piece that is part of the so-called bedding. The sheets usually form a set of a pair: a first sheet is placed covering the mattress, on which the person lies; Then, a second sheet allows the individual to cover themselves.

For example: "I'm worried because my son keeps wetting the sheet," "There were red sheets in the hotel," "Please don't eat cookies in bed: then the sheet will get dirty."

In relation to this meaning we have to say that sheet comes from Latin, from the noun sabanum , which can be translated as "canvas" or "large cloth", and which, in turn, derives from the Greek sábanon . This word referred to a large canvas that was used for the bathroom.
