Irrigation

Sprinkler

Irrigation involves pouring water onto a surface with the aim of improving it.

Irrigation is the process and result of watering . The etymology of this verb (water) takes us to the Latin rigare, which can be translated as "wet" or "water."

Watering, likewise, consists of pouring a liquid , usually water, on a certain surface with the intention of providing it with a benefit or cleaning it.

For example: "It is very hot: we are going to have to reinforce irrigation tasks in the field" , "If you want the plant to bloom in all its splendor, irrigation alone is not enough" , "The cooperative invested several thousand pesos to implement a new automatic irrigation system in the park .

Irrigation methods

Typically, irrigation is linked to spreading water over the land so that plants can survive and grow. Irrigation, therefore, is essential for gardening and for the development of agriculture .

There are numerous irrigation methods. The simplest, used in home gardening, consists of using a watering can (a container that is filled with liquid and that, thanks to having a tube with holes at its end, allows water to be provided to the plants in a controlled manner).

Drip irrigation , on the other hand, is a system of pipes with holes that are arranged under the ground or on its surface throughout a plantation . Sprinkler irrigation , on the other hand, consists of a mechanism that expels water upward so that it falls as if it were rain on the ground, in certain specific places. Finally, in larger fields, flood irrigation is often used.

In the same way, we must also talk about hose irrigation . These, which must be rigid, are buried while taps and water intakes are placed. In this way, it will be possible to have the crops perfectly watered, in an absolutely simple way.

Issues to consider

It is important when choosing one type of irrigation or another to take into account not only the surface on which it has to be carried out but also the type of crop on which it is going to be carried out. And each species of plant has different water needs.

Likewise, it should not be overlooked that it is necessary, when determining the amount of water to be poured, the season of the year in which it is located, since during times of higher temperatures it will be necessary to have a more overwhelming.

It should be noted that irrigation management must be efficient to avoid wasting water and so that the plants receive the right amount.

The surname Riego

In addition to all the above, we cannot ignore that Riego is also a surname . Thus, among the best-known historical figures who wore it is the Asturian politician and military man Rafael del Riego Flórez ( Tuña 1784Madrid 1823 ).

This man was a Spanish liberal who served as field marshal and captain general as well as president of the Cortes. However, what stood out above all was that he was one of the most important defenders of civil liberties in Spain and became a martyr due to the repression that was carried out against liberalism.
