A meeting occurs when a group of people get together.
Meeting is the act and result of gathering (grouping, associating, agglutinating , coupling or accumulating). The most common use of the concept is associated with the group of individuals that comes together , either spontaneously or organized, for some reason.
For example: "Please tell Dr. Koudpa that I am going to be late for the meeting," "In half an hour I have to be at Martina's school since there will be a parents' meeting," "In the middle of the meeting, the "The owner's son stood up and began to insult his partners."
The etymology of meeting
Before entering fully into establishing the meaning of the term meeting, it is important to know its etymological origin. In this case we can say that it derives from the Latin reunion , which is the result of the sum of the following parts:
- The prefix re -, which means "backwards" or "repetition" .
- The noun unus , which is synonymous with "one" .
- The ending -ire , which is used to give form to certain verbs.
- The suffix -ion , used to indicate action and effect.
A meeting can be formal or informal.
Classification according to type
There are all types of meetings, in the most diverse contexts. In the workplace , meetings are usually organized to determine the operation of a company , provide instructions to workers or establish commercial agreements.
In an educational institution , it is common for meetings to be called between parents and teachers to share information about children's development. At the family level, meetings allow family members to meet and talk.
Meetings can be arranged in advance . This is the case of a meeting of Latin American presidents whose holding begins to be organized a year in advance to manage the agendas of the leaders. In other cases, however, the meeting arises spontaneously : three neighbors may organize an impromptu meeting when they discover that a pipe broke in the building in which they live.
The idea of a reunion is also used with reference to the reunion of a group of people: "Five years after their separation, the British band announced their reunion to carry out a new tour."
