Relocation

Transfer

A relocation involves relocating.

The term relocation is not part of the dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy ( RAE ). The concept that we can find in the publication is location : the process and result of locating (placing something or someone in a certain place).

If we take into account the use of the prefix re- , we can say that relocation consists of relocating . For example: “The government presented a plan for the relocation of emergency neighborhoods that arose in different public spaces in the city,” “Given the closure of the marketing department, we are going to have to define the relocation of a dozen employees.” , “Relocation of flood victims will take several days” .

Relocation concept

Relocation is usually a decision by a government to move people, buildings, institutions, etc. from one point to another in the territory . It is common for the concept to be used in relation to the need to relocate a slum, favela, shanty or any neighborhood with precarious buildings and without public services. From the relocation, it is intended that the inhabitants can improve their quality of life and that the irregularly occupied areas be liberated.

A company 's workers, on the other hand, can be part of a relocation when they are changed from their job . A person who worked in the commercial department of a company may be relocated and sent to the administrative sector.

Displacement

The transfer of a person or institution from one place to another can be referred to as relocation.

RAM memory management

RAM memory is one of the most important components of any current device, such as computers or mobile phones; Despite this, many users are unaware of its role within the system and, due to the imprecise nomenclatures, confuse it with the storage medium that we generally call a hard drive. The cause of this last confusion is that portable devices usually use Flash memory for permanent data storage, which is why the term "memory" appears more than once in the technical specifications, although it refers to different concepts.

The devices need RAM memory to load the programs that the user wants to run, as well as any other files that the user intends to view; Although they are stored on the permanent disk, for different reasons the processor requires their transfer to RAM (with exceptions). The concept of relocation is used in this context to define the transfer of data related to the same object from one memory space to another .

Why is the RAM relocation process necessary? First of all, when you want to load a program, it is normal that you do not know in advance the position in which it will end; In other words, programmers typically do not have the power to decide which memory sectors the software they develop will be loaded into. On the other hand, after having suspended a process, the operating system cannot guarantee it the same position it had previously, and that is why it must be relocated .

Development of the relocation process

* the memory addresses referenced by the process (which are called logical addresses ) are translated into those that RAM can assign to them ( physical addresses ). This translation takes place in the memory management unit ( Memory Management Unit , with its acronym MMU , also used in Spanish);

* each process receives an independent map (or logical space), which is created so that it is projected in the part of the memory that corresponds to it, according to the results of the translation.

Relocation, finally, is the name of a tournament organized by the Buenos Aires Rugby Union ( Argentina ), which takes place in the second half of the year.
