Spring

Mechanics

There are different types of springs.

A spring is an operator with elastic characteristics that can conserve and release energy without experiencing permanent deformation when the force exerted on it ends. Springs (a term originating from the French ressort ) have multiple uses, in all situations in which it is necessary to apply a certain force and for it to then be returned in the form of energy (vehicle suspensions, connection cables, etc.) .

Specifically, we can establish that there are many elements, instruments and devices in our lives that use the installation of springs to function conveniently. Thus, for example, there are springs of this type in technological products such as the previously popular floppy disks and also in vehicles . More precisely, the springs become a fundamental piece to achieve the perfect suspension of our car.

Types of springs

Springs can be made of stainless steel, carbon steel, plastic or other materials. Their dimensions and shapes vary depending on their use. There are tension springs (which are usually provided with hooks located at their ends), compression springs (cylindrical, conical, fixed pitch, etc.) and torsion springs (subject to this type of forces).

For example: “Josecito's game doesn't work anymore, it seems to me that the spring came out” , “The doll jumps thanks to the spring in its legs” , “I have to implement a system of springs to cushion the blows” .

A children's game

In the same way, we also find the existence of a very traditional children's game that receives this name. Thus, in Mexico the game that in other countries is called the rubber or elastic game is known as spring. It consists of the participants having to carry out a series of jumps, at a certain pace, on an elastic band.

In order to play, it is necessary for two people to hold the aforementioned rubber band at its ends so that the rest of the children can carry out the aforementioned jumps to the rhythm that is imposed in the songs of the game. All of them jumps that become more difficult as this activity develops.

Thus, among the levels is playing with the rubber on the ankle, knee, mid-thigh, hip or even the waist. And all this without forgetting that at this point the jumps can vary in form: jumping with both feet, stepping on the rubber with one or two feet, passing the leg over the spring or wrapping it around the leg.

Other uses of the term spring

The concept is also used symbolically to name the means (whether of a material or immaterial nature) that allows a specific purpose to be achieved . The analogy is given by the impulse that a spring can give when contracting and expanding: “The prize was a spring that took me to a new level in this industry,” “I would like to export to other markets, but I don't have a spring.”

Resorte , finally, is a Mexican nu metal band founded in 1995 that has released albums such as “República de cecos” , “XL (Extra Large)” and “Rebota (f=kx)” .
