A decisive measure generates an immediate and considerable change.

The Latin word resolūtus , derived from resolvĕre , came to Spanish as resolutivo . This is how something linked to resolution is described: the decision, the definition.

Resolution with firmness

A decisive individual is someone who resolves different issues firmly. This is someone who does not hesitate when making decisions and who is proactive , always trying to find solutions to problems .

For example: “We need someone in management who is decisive and who does not hesitate when making decisions” , “Decisive, the girl decided to change the ticket and postponed her trip until the next day” , “It bothers me that Ernesto is not decisive and that he has to consult everything instead of solving things by himself” .

In order for a company to grow and remain successful, it is necessary to have decisive people. As mentioned in the first example, corporate decision-making must be done firmly, without showing weakness or hesitation. The second sentence tells us about a young woman who, for certain reasons, did not hesitate to postpone a trip until the next day; although we do not provide the context, we imply that for a non-decisive person it would not have been easy - or even possible - to make this decision in such a short time.

We come to the last example, in which the speaker complains about the attitude of Ernesto, a man who - far from being decisive - is unable to solve problems without first asking others what to do, how to do it. It is important to remember that we should not be harsh with insecure people, because their difficulty is not capricious and they really need time and support to feel that they deserve their own space, that their actions are as valid as those of others.

Creativity and tenacity

A decisive person is usually creative and tenacious. In this way, he or she uses his or her mental capacity and imagination to overcome challenges and, in addition, persists until he or she achieves the desired result. Optimism is another quality that is usually present in decisive individuals, as it allows them to not lose confidence in the face of temporary or circumstantial failures.

At this point we must return to the idea of self-confidence, a crucial trait in the social performance of every person: being decisive and insecure does not seem possible, since to make a decision in a fraction of a second it is necessary first of all to trust that our ideas are valid , that they will bring benefits to those who take advantage of them. This does not mean that creativity is exclusive to these individuals, but that they constantly show it, while others reserve it for a much smaller environment, or for themselves.

Something decisive

The decisive, on the other hand, has power , capacity or faculty of resolution : "The decisive ruling of the assembly cancelled the activities of the month" , "We have already presented the documentation, now we are waiting for the judge's decisive opinion" , "We are a consultative body, but not a decisive body: we lack the power to apply sanctions" .

Various drugs in tablets

A conclusive medicine or treatment is one that can cure a patient.

In the three examples just given, we see that the adjective resolutive indicates the "final" or "definitive" nature of the nouns it modifies, such as "ruling", "dictamen" or "organ". This means that its actions or its influence on its environment generate tangible and short-term changes.

In the field of medicine , finally, a resolutive treatment is something that can cause the disappearance of an inflammation or a tumor . In this way, it resolves a health problem. In the case of a serious health condition, resolutive treatments are preferred over palliative treatments, that is, those that attenuate or soften the patient's suffering.
