Report

A report is a report.

A report is a report or news . This type of document (which can be printed, digital, audiovisual, etc.) aims to transmit information , although it can have various objectives. There are informative, persuasive and other types of reports.

The report can be the conclusion of a previous investigation or adopt a problem-solution structure based on a series of questions. In the case of printed reports, the text is usually accompanied by graphs, diagrams, tables of contents, and footnotes.

The report in computing

In the field of computing , reports are reports that organize and display the information contained in a database . Its function is to apply a certain format to the data to display it through an attractive design that is easy to interpret by users.

The report, in this way, gives greater usefulness to the data. Working with a spreadsheet with 10,000 fields is not the same as working with a pie-shaped drawing that presents said fields graphically. Reports have various levels of complexity, from a list or enumeration to much more developed graphs.

Information

A digital report can be interactive.

Depending on the computer program and database in question, the reports allow the creation of labels and the preparation of invoices, among other tasks.

In the same way, thanks to the reports, anyone can proceed to summarize the data or classify it into specific groups. For all this, it is understood that these documents are so important in any company since thanks to them it has its own databases (of workers, clients, suppliers...), it compiles sales made in a certain period...

Thus, taking into account the data they address and the extent they have, these reports can then be classified at various levels in terms of their complexity, giving rise to catalogues, lists, summaries...

The concept in the media

For the media, a report is informative content . It may be a television or radio program (or segment), a note published in a newspaper or magazine, or a digital document. For example: «Now we are going to see the report on the state of traffic in the city of Buenos Aires» , «Juan López will present us a report on the performance of the Chilean tennis players at Roland Garros» .

Within this sector, we also have to emphasize that there are various media that use the term in question. Thus, we would have to talk, for example, about the South American digital publication “Reporte Confidencial”, which is committed to investigative journalism and has been operating for seven years.

Sharing the same root with the word we are analyzing, there are other important terms within the field of journalism, such as reporter or report.

Thus, the first is the professional who is dedicated to collecting all the information about a fact or event and then proceeding to inform the public about it. You can do it well through a written article or a chronicle on a television or radio program, among other possibilities.

The second, the term reportage , for its part, is used to refer to the work that a journalist has carried out in depth on a very specific topic that arouses interest.
