Reforestation

The idea of repopulation is usually associated with reforestation.

Repopulation is the process and result of repopulating (populating something again). The verb can be used with reference to replanting species that were previously part of a piece of land and now are not. In this way, when we talk about reforestation, we are referring to reforestation .

For example: "Tomorrow a reforestation day will take place in the mountains" , "The neighbors demanded that the mayor promote a repopulation of trees to beautify the park" , "The repopulation of the forest regions affected by the fire should be a priority" .

Reforestation

Generally, the idea of repopulation associated with reforestation is linked to those lands that, in the near past, had certain species that have now disappeared due to overexploitation , a natural disaster or another reason. Repopulation, therefore, consists of planting these species again or planting others so that the area has vegetation again.

Other objectives that are implicit in the reforestation process can be located in the following two groups: producers (aimed at producing direct goods or raw materials, such as wood, fruits or cork); protective (when seeking to obtain indirect benefits that derive from the simple existence of the set of woody plants found in the area to be repopulated, such as the conservation of wildlife or the protection of the soil).

abandoned town

Repopulating a town involves getting inhabitants to settle in the place again.

The choice of species

One of the fundamental steps when carrying out a reforestation plan is the choice of the species or species , something that depends directly on the definition of the objectives, according to the characteristics set out in the previous paragraph. The species selection process is divided into three stages: the first and second revolve around the characteristics of the current season, also taking into account certain ecological factors; The third, however, aims to respect economic criteria.

Having chosen the species or species, it becomes necessary to indicate their origin or ecotype, that is, to record the place where the seeds were obtained; Thanks to this detailed information it is possible to establish certain predictions about the characteristics of the plant group that you wish to create.

Human repopulation

The idea of repopulation can also be associated with the process that leads to repopulating a place that has been abandoned or whose original inhabitants have been expelled or annihilated . Repopulation, in this case, implies that a certain number of people settle in a certain place.

Suppose that a rural town begins to lose inhabitants after the railroad stops reaching it. By not receiving trains, the local economy ended up ruined and the residents left. Thus it became what is known as a ghost town . Faced with this situation, the provincial government promotes the repopulation of the town, granting loans to families who settle there and supporting them so that they can develop different productive activities.

Sometimes the reason for the population decline is related to a natural disaster or a major accident that has occurred due to the negligence of a construction company, for example. After an emergency situation, which can also be due to a crime wave, the attractiveness of a neighborhood can disappear in a very short time, and all residents who find the opportunity to leave usually do so.

When an area has become stigmatized for any of the reasons just explained, among others, the work of repopulation can be very difficult and require a joint effort between government bodies and private companies that find benefits in convincing people to move there.
