Backwater

Calm landscape

Backwater is associated with calm.

Remanso is a term associated with the action of stopping, relaxing, becoming still or staying calm . The notion also refers to the consequences of this action and the place where these actions take place.

The etymological origin of the concept can be found in Latin. It comes from the word remansum , which can be translated as "staying still in one place."

For example: "The house that belonged to my grandfather, in the south, is my haven" , "You can't continue with this state of nervousness: look for a suitable place and find a haven" , "After the battle, the Viking leader looked for a haven of tranquility and moved away from the scene of conflict" .

The backwater as a retreat

The idea of a haven is usually linked to a retreat in search of calm and relaxation . Let's suppose that a person is experiencing a traumatic or stressful situation and wants to get away from their problems for a while. What they will do is distance themselves from what affects them and go to a place where they can be calm, without pressure or anxiety. The place they find that offers them this, then, will be their haven.

That is why the idea of a "haven of peace" is often used to define any space where someone finds the peace and quiet they need. This description can be given to anything from a natural spot far from all the hustle and bustle to a rural tourism cabin, far from the towns.

A haven of peace can also be a situation or circumstance that allows for enjoyment and pleasure. A man who, at the end of the work day, usually goes to a bar to drink a beer and relax, may say that this habit is his "haven of peace" because it allows him to disconnect from obligations and responsibilities.

Relax

Backwater can be linked to relaxation.
