A regular player is one who, although he does not have a bad level, does not reach excellence.
The concept of regular has two different etymological roots. This word, experts say, can come from the Latin regulāre and refer to the act of measuring or making adjustments to a certain thing , either through a process of deduction or when comparing two or more elements, establishing order in a situation or specific thing , make adjustments to optimize the operation of a device or system or establish the standards to which an object or individual must adapt.
To give some examples: “I think the State should make an effort to regulate the actions of this type of companies” , “We have to regulate the operation of the boiler to avoid problems in the winter” , “I don't understand why the authorities do not regulate the traffic” , “The chief said that he is going to be in charge of regulating the arming of the groups to avoid conflicts” .
Regulate as that adjusted to norms
Another etymological root of regular arises from regulāris . In this case, the notion is related to that which adapts and is subject to certain regulations . Regular, as you know, gives the idea of uniformity and does not exhibit major alterations or variations: “This is a regular machine, which performs similar functions to the rest of those that can currently be found in the local market,” “Floods have become “a regular problem in this city.”
Thus, starting from this meaning, we can establish that there are so-called regular verbs . These are those that are characterized by the fact that they strictly comply with the rules and models established for the conjugation to which they belong.
A regular polygon has sides and angles equal to each other.
Average condition
Regular is also everything that has an average condition or does not reach excellence . For this reason, the term is used to indicate something moderately good: “He is an average player, with little talent but quite athletic,” “In the interview I did average, I don't know if I am going to get the job,” “The newspaper rated the movie as regular.”
In this sense we can also point out that it is common for the term we are analyzing to be used in the field of teaching. Thus, on many occasions, teachers when they are in charge of correcting their students' work or exercises use three grades: good, bad and average. This last note expresses that the aforementioned exercise is in the middle between the other two qualifications mentioned.
The regular term in the military field
In the same way, regulating is a concept that is also used in the military or military sphere. In this sense, we can state that the regulars are those Moroccan soldiers who are part of the ranks of the corps that belong to what was the former protectorate of said country.
However, the infantry army units that are located in the two autonomous cities that exist in Spain are also known by the name regular. We are referring to Ceuta and Melilla .
Likewise, within this same area we have to emphasize that the analyzed term also joins another to give a name to one of the steps carried out by the various military bodies. This is the regular pace that is characterized by being slow.
The notion in geometry
For geometry , finally, a regular polygon is one that has both its sides and angles identical to each other.
A regular polyhedron, likewise, is one that has angles and faces with identical characteristics.
