Redesign

Project

A redesign involves making changes to a previous design.

Redesign is a concept that is not part of the dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy ( RAE ). Regardless, the inclusion of the prefix re- indicates that a redesign is the result of redesigning something .

Design , meanwhile, is a concept whose etymology refers to the Italian language: disegno . It may be a schematic or configuration; of a planning ; of the original idea or arrangement of something; or the way something has.

Let's see how the notion is applied. A car manufacturer introduces a new vehicle model that has certain technical characteristics (weight, length, etc.) and a certain appearance. Two years later, after collecting comments and feedback from users, it launched a new version of said car with a redesign. The car is now smaller, less heavy and has a different shape. The manufacturer, therefore, modified the original car and redesigned it.

Redesign of a brand

In many companies, for different and varied reasons, the decision is made to proceed with a redesign of the brand and corporate image . And this can bring with it a significant number of advantages, among which are the following:

  • It helps to modernize and adapt to current times. This is an especially relevant benefit in the case of companies that have been in operation for a long time.
  • It is a good way to gain attractiveness and freshness, which will help acquire new customers.
  • It helps establish the appropriate message that you want to convey to the market and give it value.
  • In cases where a company has had to face a serious crisis, it helps to recover lost credibility.
  • It is a great alternative when you want to give a radical change of direction to the entity in question.
  • It also serves to retain existing customers and to be able to get new ones.

However, before a company makes the decision to finally undertake a redesign of its brand, it must also be aware that this entails some disadvantages that are worth weighing:

  • A loss of brand awareness on the part of customers may occur.
  • If a palpable notoriety or position has been achieved, a decrease in it may occur.
  • The process has a high value.
Report

A redesign can be justified based on various data.

Changes to a website

The redesign of a website , on the other hand, encompasses different types of changes in the arrangement of the elements that make it up.

Through the redesign you can modify the background color, the typography of the texts and the way in which the images are displayed.

Redesign of intangible things

Redesign can also involve a change in intangible things . An Argentine company that intends to position itself in the Chinese market may develop a strategy that, after two years, decides to modify since the results obtained are not as expected.

The redesign of the strategy , in this way, implies changes in marketing actions and the preparation of a different budget, with a different distribution of the money invested.
