Recess

Vacation

The interruption of daily activities or obligations is known as a break.

Recess is a term that comes from the Latin recessus . This term, in turn, derives from the Latin verb recedere , which is composed of two clearly delimited parts: the prefix re- , which can be translated as "backwards" ; and the Latin verb cedere , which means "to withdraw."

The notion is used to name a suspension , a paralysis or a truce . When something goes into recess, its development or continuity is interrupted .

For example: "After the break, the game resumed under heavy rain" , "The break starts in two days, so we have to finish the procedures as soon as possible" , "This year there will be no break during the winter" .

Recess as suspension

The concept allows us to refer to both the suspension itself and the period in which the shares are suspended. If we take the case of a soccer game, the recess is the rest time that exists between the first and second half of the game.

However, in the judicial field is where the term in question is most frequently used. In that case, we speak of a recess to refer to the break that occurs during the development of a judicial process with the clear objective that all parties can rest or eat during the day . However, on other occasions, the recess may consist of a longer interruption to proceed with the study of new evidence or important turns in a trial.

The concept is also often used in the field of education. In this specific case it is used to refer to the break that is taken during school hours so that students and teachers can rest. This means, therefore, that it can be used as a synonym for recreation .

School

In the school environment, recess is recess.

Termination linked to time of year or weather

In an assembly or a legislative body, a recess is called the period in which there are no sessions since the activity is suspended due to vacation : "The opposition deputies intend to discuss the issue before the recess, but they cannot reach the necessary quorum," "The victim's mother regretted that she did not have an answer before the break," "We will see each other again after the break."

It is common for the cessation of activities to be linked to weather conditions or a time of year . The summer break, in this sense, consists of the suspension of something during the summer . Also, in some contexts, an administrative recess may be declared during the end-of-year festivities so that workers can reunite with their families: "The club will announce hiring after the summer recess," "Between December 30 and December 2 January there will be administrative recess in all State bodies .

sun break

In addition to all of the above, we cannot forget that there is also what is known as recess of the sun .

This is a concept, included in the dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy ( RAE ), that is used within the field of astronomy to describe an apparent movement in which the aforementioned star moves away from the equator.
