Rapine

Owl

Birds of prey hunt for food.

Rapiña is a term that refers to a certain crime that is committed violently . It could be a theft or a snatch , with criminals acting quickly. For example: “The merchant was injured when he was robbed while he was on his way to his business,” “The young man confessed to the robbery and was sentenced to two months in prison,” “Four people were arrested for robbing a shopping center.”

In Latin is where we find the etymological origin of the term that concerns us now. Specifically, it derives from the word rapina , which can be translated as robbery or “looting” and is made up of two parts:

  • The verb rapere , which means “to snatch” or “to steal.”
  • The suffix -ina , which is used to indicate “quality or action” .

birds of prey

Birds of prey , on the other hand, are those that hunt to feed on the meat of their prey. Also known as birds of prey , these animals have large claws and sharp beaks that allow them to dominate other species and tear flesh. The falcon, the vulture , the eagle and the condor are species of birds of prey.

Birds of prey are fundamentally divided into two large groups:

  • daytime o falconiforms , como son el águila pescadora, el azor, el gavilán, el halcón y el buitre. Este conjunto se divide a su vez en cinco clasificaciones: pandionids , sagittarius , cathartids , accipitrids y falconids .
  • Nocturnal . This group is divided into two: the titonids , among which are owls, and the strigids , as would be the case of owls and even owls.

Some birds of prey are also scavengers : this means that they feed on decomposing meat (already dead animals that were not hunted by them).

Monopoly

The idea of plunder can refer to the use or exploitation of a resource until it is exhausted.

A use

The notion of plunder is also used in a more symbolic sense to mention companies or investors that, taking advantage of a certain economic situation, keep resources paying a lower price than they actually have. The concept can also be applied to name the action that consists of extracting wealth from a certain sector until it is exhausted : “This nation suffered the economic plunder of large international power groups for more than a decade,” “We must protect these lands .” of the plunder of multinational companies, which destroy the environment and take away millions of dollars.”

In addition to all of the above, it should be noted that there is the verb plunder, which is used to refer to stealing or taking something from someone in an unexpected way.

“Rapnea” movie

Likewise, we must take into consideration the existence, within the cinematographic field, of the film “Rapiña” .

It is a 1973 Mexican feature film, directed by Carlos Enrique Taboada and starring Ignacio López Tarso and Germán Robles , which revolves around two indigenous lumberjacks who find a crashed plane in the area where they work. This will make them decide to steal the belongings of the deceased passengers. However, a problem arises: two chickadees appear ready to do the same.
