Quicio

Window

A part of a window or door is called a hinge.

Quicio is a concept with different meanings. According to what is specified by the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE) through its dictionary , it is the part of a window or door that enters a specific sector so that it can be moved, rotated, opened or closed, when just as hinges , hinges or hinges act.

The hinge, in this sense, is a pointed hinge that, acting with a square on a hole, creates play so that the window or door can be inserted into a lintel or threshold .

The term quicio in a famous couplet

Precisely with that meaning, the term appears in one of the most important couplets in the history of music. We are referring to the song titled “Green Eyes” , in which it is said like this: “lean on the door of the mancebía” . It seems that it was in 1935 where the origin of that musical composition is found, since it is considered that it was the result of a meeting between the singer Miguel de Molina , the poet Federico García Lorca and the writer Rafael de León .

The latter is credited with the creation of this song, in which Quiroga and Salvador Valverde also participated, which was premiered by the artist Blanquita Álvarez . However, from then until now, singers of the stature of Miguel de Molina himself, Estrellita Castro , Concha Piquer , Rocío Jurado and Isabel Pantoja have made versions of it.

Lock

The hinge is the hinge that allows the door or window to enter a threshold or lintel.

symbolic use of the notion

The most common use of the notion, however, is symbolic and associates the hinge with an order or a natural state . This meaning allows us to create different expressions with the term.

“Getting on someone's nerves” means annoying them , making them lose patience or get angry about something. For example: “With so many questions, Juan got on my nerves,” “Why are you trying so hard to get on my nerves?” “I was very calm until you arrived,” “The traffic chaos in this city drives me crazy.”

There are many ways to get on someone's nerves. However, among them the following stand out: playing a practical joke on him, not listening to him and continually interrupting him when he is speaking, messing with his physical appearance, laughing at what he says, adding to everything he explains, constantly questioning what he is exposing...

Getting someone mad can not only be done face to face but also through technology. So, for example, this can be achieved through instant messaging applications such as WhatsApp. Specifically, in that case you will get someone off your nerves by writing each word in a sentence or not responding to them.

out of my mind

In a similar sense, the idea of being “out of your mind” can be used, which is equivalent to having your nerves upset or being subjected to a situation of tension and stress .

“I suggest you not talk to Manuel: he is out of his mind because of the meeting he had with the creditors”, “Out of rage, the player began to insult the referee and even threatened to hit him” y “Since he was fired from work, the guy is out of his mind: I hope he finds a new job soon” son ejemplos de este uso.
