Definition of

Provided

Mountaineer

Provided comes from the verb provide (to supply, to provide): "The climbers began the expedition equipped with thermal clothing, harnesses and ropes."

Provided is a conjugation of the verb provide . This action refers to providing, supplying or procuring something . The notion of providing can also refer to the completion of a certain procedure or the resolution of some issue.

For example: “I bought a coat with a hood to take on the trip, since it usually rains very frequently in that region,” “The cultural center works thanks to the material provided by the State,” “The radio studio is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment” , “I have provided the children with everything they need to start the school year” .

It should be noted that provide is a verb that, etymologically speaking, derives from Latin. Specifically, it emanates from providere , which means “prepare” or “identify in advance” and is made up of two different parts:

  • The prefix pro- , which can be translated as “in front” .
  • The verb videre , which is synonymous with “see” .

Provided and supplied

It is important to note that provided is an irregular participle of provide. This participle can be used as a noun or as an adjective . The verb provide, however, also has a regular participle: provided .

Both participles are grammatically correct. It is the same to say “The UN has provided food to the refugee camps of the African nation” as “The UN has provided food to the refugee camps of the African nation.”

Similarly, it can be said “The study material had been provided by a businessman” , but also “The study material had been provided by a businessman” .

Despite this acceptance of both forms based on grammar , currently the use of provided is usually privileged instead of provided . This causes confusion in some people about it and they believe that the regular participle (provided) is incorrect, when in reality it is not.

Sometimes, provided is often confused with intended . However, they are different because the first, as we already indicated, comes from provide (which means “to supply everything necessary for an action” ) and the second derives from foresee (a verb equivalent to “know or conjecture”).

God

Apollo is a god who is usually represented equipped with a zither, bow and arrows.

Use of the term in different areas

When talking about fictional characters, allegorical figures, gods and myths, it is common to also resort to the use of the term provided. In their case, it is used to be able to make clear what weapons, powers or symbols that identify them and differentiate them from the rest.

Thus, for example, it is said that the skeleton equipped with a scythe represents death or that Apollo , god of music and divinity, is represented equipped with a bow and arrows, zither and even a sword.

Fans of the world of extreme sports and adventures also regularly use the term provided. And it is necessary that they be provided with an endless number of safety instruments, appropriate footwear and suitable clothing for the development of the different disciplines. In this way, for example, it is often said: “The mountaineer appeared at the site equipped with thermal clothing, climbing shoes, harnesses and ropes as well as basic food and a tent.”
