Extension

Ticket

An extension can be the extension of a deadline (for example, in the payment of a bill).

The first thing to do in order to know and understand the meaning of the term extension is to discover its etymological origin. In this sense, we can say that it is found in Latin, exactly in prorogare , which is the result of the sum of two differentiated parts:

-The prefix pro- , which is equivalent to “forward”.

-The verb rogare , which can be translated as “ask” or “try to obtain.”

An extension is an extension of a certain period . This means that, when an already determined temporary period is desired or must be extended, an extension is established.

Examples of extension

Suppose that a publisher launches a short story contest and invites writers to submit their works until August 31 inclusive . Given the requests of many authors to extend the deadline, the publisher announces an extension and establishes a new closing of the contest for September 15 .

Something similar can happen with the due dates of an invoice . A telephone company sends the invoice corresponding to the month of May to its customers, setting the due date as June 10 . Due to a natural disaster that generates economic difficulties, the company makes the decision to establish a 20-day extension and, in this way, extends the payment period.

Overtime

In basketball and other sports, overtime is an additional time played with the goal of breaking the tie.

Extra time in sport

Overtimes, also known as supplementary , extensions or extra time , are common in certain sports . In this case, an overtime is an additional playing time that is added to the regulation when a tie is recorded. In this way, overtime offers the possibility that this equality is broken and there is a winning team.

Each sport establishes a series of rules regarding overtime. Thus, for example, in soccer these are equivalent to two more periods of fifteen minutes each. If at the end of these the score is still tied, what will occur is the development of the penalty shootout.

There are many extensions that have already gone down in the history of football in general. This would be the case, for example, of the one Spain played in the World Cup final match against Holland. The Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg, in Africa, was the venue for this event that saw the Spanish team win after the Barcelona Football Club midfielder, Andrés Iniesta, scored a goal during extra time. He scored it in the 116th minute of the game.

Extra time in basketball or basketball

In basketball, for its part, the extra period of overtime is 5 minutes and that same time is what is determined for other sports such as ice hockey, for example.

For example: a basketball game in the Spanish ACB League ends with a score of 75-75 at the end of 40 minutes of play . From then on, a 5-minute extension begins. In the event that the first overtime also ends with equality, as many more overtimes as necessary will be played until a winner is declared.
