Prolix , from the Latin prolixus , is something careful or careful . According to the dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE) , the adjective can also refer to what is excessively dilated, impertinent or annoying .
For example: “I am happy because the painter did a very neat job in my house” , “I always tell my son that he has to be neat with his schoolwork” , “I like a neat and shaved man better than the one who has long hair and shows a careless appearance .
The etymological origin of prolix takes us to the compound word pro ( "in front" )- lixus ( "liquid" ). The first use of the word, therefore, was associated with pouring or spilling liquids . Then it began to be used to name the action of pronouncing words easily and, by extension, those works with unnecessary words.
Concept of neat
The quality of neatness is known as neatness . It can be said, therefore, that what is neat has neatness: “This table is made by hand but stands out for its neatness,” “The craftsman managed to complete a very neat job since the table has a perfect appearance.” ” .
Carelessness and lack of attention are issues that threaten tidiness. A neat school notebook is one that has all its pages in good condition, is legible, is well organized, etc. On the other hand, if the child tears and wrinkles the pages and leaves ink stains, his or her notebook will be untidy.
It is worth mentioning, on the other hand, that a neat work does not always go hand in hand with usefulness or true understanding of the topic on which it focuses. For example, being able to copy a text with exceptional handwriting, without making any spelling mistakes, harmoniously organizing its paragraphs and effectively highlighting its title and subtitles, does not necessarily mean understanding it and being able to apply the knowledge it exposes.
A way to organize
Neatness is not a virtue of a few, but a way of organizing oneself to work, or of having the tools available when undertaking any activity (including speaking ) that we can all learn, to a greater or lesser extent. That said, it is undeniable that for some individuals it seems almost natural while for others, it seems like an impossible goal to achieve.
And this is related to the concerns of each one, with the reasons that lead us to travel one path or another ; For most people, for example, school is a kind of labyrinth that we are forced to navigate, and that is not very different from the one our parents have navigated or the one that subsequent generations will have to go through. It is an unattractive adventure for most, since it consists of achieving a large number of goals that others impose on us.
Being verbose, a matter of interest
In the student stage, with respect to the way of facing obligations, there are three well-defined vertices: the individual who cannot seem to avoid being verbose; one who, on the contrary, shows no interest in any subject and is unable to keep two letters at the same level within a line; who, more focused and committed to himself than the previous two, seems to wake up when his favorite subject arrives and dedicates his full potential to it.
Being neat, therefore, is usually easier when we are interested in the subject we are addressing: if we are copying a text that we are passionate about, talking about topics that we master and that we like or organizing our most precious belongings, neatness will surely direct our actions.
Another use of the term, however, refers to the meticulous and detailed . In this sense, a thorough investigation is one that analyzes various factors, uses several sources and presents a multiplicity of data.
