Advance notice

Contract

Notice is called the communication that must be made before carrying out a certain action.

Latin is where we can say that the etymological origin of the term notice is found, since it is the result of the sum of two components of said language:

-The prefix «pre-«, which means «before».

-"Ad visum", which can be translated as "warning."

A notice is a communication that must be made before carrying out certain actions. The most common use of the concept is in the workplace.

Advance notice in the workplace

Advance notice appears, for example, when one of the parties who have signed an employment contract decides to terminate it. This means that the company that is dismissing an employee must issue advance notice so that the person knows in advance that their contract will be terminated. Similarly, the worker who is resigning from a company must issue advance notice to his employer. The purpose of the notice is so that the employee can go looking for another job or so that the company can begin the search for another worker.

With a minimum period of fifteen days, as established by many legal regulations in different countries, the company must inform the worker of the notice that his contract is ending. And that is the same time that an employee has who wants to leave and end the professional relationship with the entity.

Within the workplace we also have to say that a worker must give notice to indicate to his bosses that he is going to take his days off from his own affairs. Specifically, it is required that you express this at least seven days in advance.

It is important to note that the only way to retract a notice is through an agreement between the two parties. If the employment contract will be terminated for justified cause, on the other hand, advance notice is not mandatory.

Protest

Before going on strike, the worker must communicate his decision to the company and the state authorities that regulate labor relations.

The term linked to a strike

In some countries, notice also appears when a worker decides to go on strike . In this case, the communication must be delivered to the affected company and the state authorities in charge of regulating labor relations.

Negotiations between the company and the workers can begin from the moment of notice with the aim of reaching an agreement that allows normal work to resume.

At a general level, it can be said that not giving the corresponding advance notice in the cases contemplated is grounds for some type of sanction or punishment .

Movie «Love with notice»

Within the world of cinema we find a film that uses the term in question in its title. This is the romantic comedy "Love with Advance Notice" , released in 2002, starring actors Hugh Grant and Sandra Bullock.

In this they play an egocentric businessman who has a Harvard lawyer as his right-hand man, whom he not only trusts with the most important matters but who, at times, he treats like a servant. Therefore, she makes the decision to leave the company and communicates this to her boss. However, it is not something that you will achieve easily.
