Popular festivals

From December 16 to 24 , popular festivals known as the Posadas are celebrated in Panama, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico and El Salvador , which seek to remember the pilgrimage of the Virgin and Joseph to Bethlehem , to find the best place in which to bring the baby Jesus into the world.

Just like Christmas , this celebration has certain customs associated with it that many people adopt regardless of their religious beliefs. For example, one of the fundamental elements of the Posadas is the piñata , which is made with paper mache (made from old newspapers and paste), chopped paper and mud. The piñata has seven peaks, each of which represents a capital sin , and symbolizes a tempting image, capable of corrupting the innocent to lead them to sin.

During the Posadas , one person is chosen to break the piñata; To do this, he must be blindfolded and use a stick. In the darkness of not being able to use your sense of sight, the search for the "knockout blow" is a truly exciting experience . The religious meaning behind this tradition is that by destroying the piñata, temptation is overcome and the gifts are recovered to achieve salvation, which are symbolized by the sweets and fruits that fall from its interior.

Other uses of the term inn

Posada, on the other hand, is a conjugation of the verb posar (to locate in a space, to rest): "The eagle was perched on the rock for a few minutes and then continued with its flight" , "It is common to see seagulls perched on the whales" , "Can you hand me the bottle that is sitting on the table?" .

Posada , finally, is the name of a town in Sardinia (in the Republic of Italy ) and a village in Asturias ( Spain ).
