Peeking

PeekingThe verb " pispear" is used in the colloquial language of South American countries to refer to trying to find out something surreptitiously or without focusing too much . The term is synonymous with "pispar ."

When someone wants to spy, therefore, what they usually do is observe or listen indiscreetly , sometimes trying not to be discovered. The action can also consist of asking questions in passing, without exposing themselves.

In short, snooping is about investigating, knowing, or discovering . For example: “When the movie trailers were released, the public was able to get a glimpse of what the style of the film would be” , “Thanks to social media, celebrity fans can sneak peeks at family and everyday moments of the stars” , “I'm going to sneak peeks to find out what the kids are doing and then I'll come back” .

Suppose a man is doing some office work at home. Although he wants to concentrate on his task, he leaves on a television that is broadcasting an important football match. So, from time to time, he can peek in and see what is happening in the game . In this setting, peeking means looking out of the corner of his eye and not focusing on the sporting event.

A woman , on the other hand, may enter a bookstore to browse through the new titles . In this case, the person scans the books with her eyes: if a title interests her or sparks her curiosity, she may stop browsing to pick up the book in question and examine it more closely.

Let's look at another example . A couple who starts planning their vacation well in advance, as a first step, takes care to look into the prices of trips to different destinations. In this way, they rule out those that are out of their reach and focus on those that are affordable.

PeekingThe verb to pispear, therefore, is carried out very frequently, although we do not always do it consciously. This means that it is not an action as obvious as studying, working or eating, which involve the interruption of other actions and a relatively important investment of time and energy, but rather it generally happens spontaneously and in parallel to others.

However, it is true that sometimes we can carry out this action in a completely conscious way, dedicating time and energy especially and even making plans in advance. To understand this type of situation, let's review the example of the woman who is interested in new publications: it could be a trip to the bookstore with the express intention of peeking at these releases, so it would not be something temporary but voluntary. Of course, we must understand that this does not add seriousness to the results of the verb itself, because it is still a shallow observation , but at least it does make it premeditated.

We cannot say that this person becomes an expert after having snooped around the recently released titles, since to do so he or she would have to read them carefully, take note of various aspects of the writing, learn about the work of each author, etc. In fact, we cannot even say that he or she really knows them, but rather that after this superficial inspection he or she learns the most obvious details about each one, especially those that the writers of the prologue and the brief synopsis on the back cover have included.

This does not mean that peeking means not showing interest in what you are looking at; on the contrary, many times we do not have the time we would like to devote to a book, a football match, a newspaper article, etc., and for this reason we limit ourselves to a brief observation.
